Thousands expected for anti-Bush protest
Saturday Sep 8 07:00 AEST

Up to 10,000 people are expected for Saturday's "Stop Bush" demonstration in Sydney's CBD, where the 21 APEC leaders will begin their two-day summit.

A legal wrangle between march organisers and the NSW Police Force resulted in the protesters being barred from Martin Place, where the US Consulate is located.

Organiser and spokesman Alex Bainbridge said Saturday's protest will highlight public opposition to the war in Iraq, global warming and attacks on workers' rights.

During a NSW Supreme Court case this week, police said they feared up to 20,000 would take part in the march, which had been planned to move past the US Consulate.

Mr Bainbridge said it was an exaggerated figure used by police to galvanise opposition to the march.

The court ruled against the protesters' plans on safety grounds and ordered the march to stay out of Martin Place.

Mr Bainbridge said protesters will abide by the decision.

The protest will begin with speakers at Town Hall from 10am (AEST), before marchers move down Park St and into Hyde Park North.

The rally will conclude with more speakers, musical acts and an official "after party" at a pub near Central Railway Station.

At least people are voicing their opinions and trying to make a difference.

I think bush would'nt care about the opinions of aussies very much. (no offence) Rather than what the americans think, but opinions overall I dont think bush cares about them very much. They have not really fazed him.
