What makes a song great.

Regardless of style tempo composition or any musical element what do you think makes a great piece of music?

For me, it's a song or piece of music that leaves you wanting more.

^That's the kind of thing I'm on about.

Well to me what makes a song great is deep meaning in it's lyrics, something you won't find much of in today's music. That's why I like bands like "Alice In Chains" "Pear Jam" "The Beatles" "Soundgarden" "Tool" and "Nirvana", not just because they make awesome music, but there is meaning to their lyrics, that's what I love about those bands.

The lyrics for sure, and then the background music/band. I like music that actually requires brain processing to think about the meaning behind the lyrics, rather than staring off into space while crappy music plays.

I see the general consensus that too much repetition is bad, so what about lyricless music is this merely how good it is to listen to or the emotions it presents to you?

Lyrics are a major part of it! It can be like LMFAO and their lyrics are literally pointless BECAUSEEEEE its club music not stuff like Nirvana you are meant to listen to not drunk.

My favorite music are artists who put meaningful, intelligent lyrics or something I can really relate to into their songs. Preferably both. Artists such as Lowkey, Akala and a few others do that pretty well for me.
