My best friends name is Melanie. She is sixteen years old, captain of the cheer team at her school, shes short and super thin already. She's beautiful. But she gets very self-conscious and lately she hasn't been eating. Then Monday, she had to be taken to the ER because she passed out during cheer practice. She didn't really think what she was doing was harming her-she just didn't feel like eating.

Guys, this is my Mellie. She is my rock. My best friend. She is my motivation to live and be all that I can be. I need her, and I need her healthy and strong. I'm so worried about her that I can't sleep or function properly. I need advice. How can I help her? I feel so helpless. I don't know what to do.

You just need to be there to support her. Try to have her eat little snacks, healthy, at regular intervals. Don't be forceful when trying to get her to eat. Understand that she is going to struggle and don't push too hard. tell her how much you care and just want her to get better. however long it takes. Good luck. I believe you can help her.

Im in the same position, my best friend hasn't been eating and I'm really worried about her. I offer her food and bring up that she's not eating but she doesn't eat still. Sit her down and talk to her about it, im trying to find the courage to do the same. Im sorry, I know how hard it is to sit through your friend struggle. I hope she gets through this, that you both become stronger because of it.

Thank you both. I'm trying. She realizes that she has a problem, and I really think that she's going to try to get better.

there's a website called somethingfishy.org that helps people who either have a friend/loved one dealing with an ED or are dealing with one themselves. I hope Mellie recovers, but it's going to be a long and difficult path. Don't hope for anything speedy.
