Im confused at it myself! I cant really listen to it... I cant stand hopped up all jumpy around music... I just listen to grunge and alternative rock and country on the side. Basically anything really hard I can only handle, is it because of my mood?

I had a huge phase where all I listened to was drone, doom metal, and post-rock. I only got out of it when I rediscovered Radiohead and a few other groups. It's fine, really; it could be mood, preference, whatever.

I'm the same, I hate pop as well. All that happy shit in it I can't stand. That elctro shit or whatever computerized shit they use. I don't consider pop to be real music, the lyrics in it have no meaning, and the only people in the pop music business are 'good looking' while their music is pretty fucking shitty. The mainstream music industry doesn't care about meaningful lyrics or good music anymore, just people they think are attrcractive, but with no musical talent whatsoever. Now that Dakota Sadento guy is probably gonna bash me for saying that pop isn't real music :P

I don't hate pop even though i listen to rock mostly. You can't globalize, some pop artists are really talented and have very good songs and they can also be meaningful. For example, Adele. Her voice is incredible, and songs are meaningful. What about Whitney Houston? Christina Aguilera? Celine Dion? Beyonce? Mariah Carey, etc. You can say whatever you want. You don't like their music and thats fine, but you can't say they're not talented.

Its like when people that like other music genres say that pop is shit or hiphop is crap or techno, etc. Think about when people born in the 70s and the like were all into types of music for instance. Now a lot of people these days are into other types of music. It's just a stage, don't get worked up about it people. But I can understand why people might not like more modern types of music like pop and electronic.

The answer to this: Justin Beiber
XD
But, I do agree with Jackener on this. People tell me all the time that my hip-hop music is crap. they just are into other music

You look at pop music from an aesthetic point of view. To say that anything isn't "real" music is such a broad statement that you have nothing to prove it with.
"Yeah, well, the lyrics don't have meaning, the music isn't good, blah blah blah."
Really, if you wanna talk about being narrow minded and empty headed...go no further than that. This is what you're saying and, in fact, is all you HAVE said when this discussion comes up. I can just as easily say all the music you listen to has no meaning and you'd probably be offended. Music is subjective, something many people here don't get, and has meaning for everyone who listens. It can be shallow, it can be deep; the meanings are different for each person, so to say that music one person might identify with isn't "real", you're going into the realm of being nonobjective.

Well I listen to a lot of "Pear Jam" "Alice in Chains" "Tool" "The Beatles" and "Soundgarden" and there is a lot of meaningful lyrics in their music.

The Beatles? Meaningful? That's a bit lowbrow if you have a standard for what has meaning. Their lyrics reflect everything else that was popular of the time: girls, holding hands, antiquated definitions of love, and getting teenage girls wet. There's no meaning in their lyrics, just what was popular to write at the time. Tool is known for incredibly good lyrics, yes, but also for very VERY pretentious themes.
But ignoring all of that. The Beatles were a pop group in their day, and they still are. What makes them different than the pop acts of today? The lyrics are common place (just like The Beatles), the music itself runs the same verse-chorus-verse setting (just like The Beatles), marketing campaigns focus heavily on looks (just like The Beatles), and endless touring does them in (just like The Beatles).

Music can often reflect one's mood or generalized feelings. I would suggest something happier if you don't want to feel like your "normal" self.

I wouldn't consider songs like "Revolution" and "Helter Skelter" by the Beatles to be pop, that's rock, I don't even think pop existed back then.

Ease yourself into it. Don't go full swing into happier music. I'd recommend starting off with Stars of the Lid and Brian Eno. Both make very slow, though generally upbeat, music.

I think Advec Laudenum is the perfect feel good album of theirs. Much better than Refinement of Decline and Tired Sounds.

Well, People have different tastes of music. I really listen to anything, Rock, Country, Classical, Oldies, Techno, Dubstep and even some Rap/R&B. However, I kind of always realized that the more intelligent people listen to music that isn't really popular. Why? Maybe it's because of that Pop isn't really supposed to be deep, its fun, happy and catchy. That's what corporations want. That's what they do, and that's what the people get. I have been asked the same question in my head "Do I hate pop?" And then I reply back with "Well, maybe it does not reflect me."

If you haven't already check out The Dead Texan and A Winged Victory for the Sullen, which has one of the two members of Stars Of The Lid in them. Really good stuff too.

I totally agree with you. There is the crap industrial and mainstream pop, like 1D, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Britney Spears, but there is also the good pop music! The problem is not the genre itself, but some artists!
I must be wicked pissed off or my normal self "super self hatin, super depressed!".
I'm just the same as you  Don't worry, I don't think it's something wrong at all, it's just a fascination for sad and deep things!
