Hey, guys! I need your help.

Well, I guess I'll start from the beginning. Ever since I was a child, I've been a picky eater, only eating certain foods. As time went on, it got worse. In my early teens (like 13-15), I was very chubby. As I grew up, I started getting thinner, limiting my intake of sugary drinks. Now I'm 17, I'm about 5'6/5'7 and I weigh about 105 lbs. Thing about me is I have this...I guess fear of trying new foods. I'm always scared I won't like it and have to deal with the disgusting taste in my mouth. I know it sounds stupid and childish, but I have nowhere else to turn. I looked it up and it's called neophobia (fear of something new) and in my case, it's food. I always lie to my mom about having eaten breakfast (I just don't wanna eat it) and sometimes I purposely starve myself. My body is very boney. My thighs don't touch when my legs are together, my hip bones protrude, as does my rib cage. Also, my collar bones are pretty...erm...out there. My doctor has also told me I'm underweight and my mother often worries about me and yells at me about my weight.

So I would really appreciate it if someone...anyone...could help me.

Well, you yourself have found out you have a fear of trying new foods. That in and of itself is a disorder. However, looking at this more, you say you go to the point where you purposely starve yourself while knowing you're already underweight. Hun, I think you very well could have an eating disorder, just know you're not alone. A lot of us on here have struggled with eating disorders as well. I would recommend--if you want to recover--seeing a doctor and/or a recommended professional about this, because they will do their best to at the very least help you with your fear of trying new foods. It's not easy to recover, but taking that step and talking to a doctor would be that first step for you hun. We're all here to support you and help you on VT as well, and if you ever need to talk, we'll always be here for you
