I am looking for a walk through on how to tune down un-needed settings on my laptop. This particular laptop is the acer aspire 5532. I could give all the specs but mentioning the single core 1.6 ghz processor built for a fucking net book is probably enough to let you know that this computer does not perform as well as I would like. So this machine is running windows 7 and I would like to improve the performance as much as possible. In the past I've had a friend from the Netherlands do this remotely for me (I recently reset my computer to factory defaults), but I haven't contacted him in awhile. I should probably learn to do this myself anyways. I don't want to sacrifice too many visual things, but turning my task bar gray is perfectly fine by me. Any assistance is appreciated much, thanks in advance if I don't get around to thanking you in the future.

Hmm I've never heard of the Athlon TF-20, only the Intel Atoms for netbooks. ;)

Would you be comfortable going with the Windows classic theme (http://localhostr.com/file/WG0jft49WkcQ/classic.png)? It relieves the graphics processor of the work of running the resource hogging taskbar in its most gorgeous form.

I like to use CCleaner (http://www.piriform.com/CCLEANER) to clean up the registry and other things. It gives a nice boost when everything's squeaky clean on your hard drive.

Defragmenting the hard drive isn't a bad idea, I like to use Defraggler (http://www.piriform.com/defraggler) instead of Windows's tool.

lol I've loaded so much onto my ubuntu system that it crashes on my sisters aspire. you can try the classic themes, or you could downgrade your entire OS using a flashdrive.

I use CCleaner for HDD defragmenting in windows.
