Do you get counseling? Does it help you?
My FOS teacher recommended I join ACS, the counseling service at our school. I don't know if it will help me or not.. :|

No. But..I've been recommended to go see a "real" psychologist rather than the fake dummy of a school psychologist at my school. It's pretty lame.

But in general terms, I think talking to someone about your feels helps to relieve your anxieties and stress about certain things. Heh, me..I'm just a shy introverted person, I had no reason to talk about my "real" feelings with some complete stranger deemed worthy by a diploma as a psychologist.

Pat, I'll be the first one to tell you that it CAN help, or it CAN do absolutely nothing. It depends on the counselor. I've seen counselors that haven't helped me one bit, but I've also seen different ones who have helped me immensely. It depends on the person, and to be honest it can't hurt to try. Because it can be a tremendous help to you, to a lot of people. I would give it a shot at the very least, with what you've been going through I think it would be able to help. If you have any questions about my experiences, feel free to ask me, you know how to get hold of me. I wish you the best of luck Pat

all you do is talk about your problems and hand over money. i solve my problems on my own but if you are into that kind of thing i guess you could do it

You'd be surpirse, they do help, its not all about simply talking and handing over money, they help you to be able to overcome things, not all people can handle it on their own.

Since I want to be a counselor I have to disagree with this. It depends WHERE and WHO you go to see. Most counselors in California cannot by law give advice, while some can. I'm going to the JFK counseling program in San Jose and they from what I got in my first two hour session was an amazing realization of what I was doing that was detrimental to my health and actually learned what I need to tackle with a psychologist to make me a healthier person. My counselor is also my friend in real life so that helped as it wasn't a formal counselling session, but many of them operate like that to understand you on a personal level. I would suggest going for it, simply because you'll be surprised how well they can navigate your mind to lead you to the healthy answer and still make you feel accomplished because you solved it by yourself. Good luck, Patty <3

Last year I had an awsome councelor/physcoligist dunno what was wrong with her physically but she was an awsome person that actually seemed to care about me. She suggested I look into counceling as in doing it. sadly she passed away. now I dunno anymore.......

The deputy head referred me to the youth worker person that comes into school without me even knowing. I try to quit and tell her to leave it but she doesn't let me, at school they always find you.

For me it doesn't help. I guess part of it depends on what the counselor is like and what you tell them. If you tell them the truth and they allow you to feel comfortable then I'm sure it would be a lot more beneficial that what I do.

All I can say is try it out, if it doesn't help you tell them that you don't want to continue talking to them. Maybe try telling them something to that effect at the start so they know you're a bit uneasy about seeing them.
