Premature Name Change

If I'm unhappy with my username, can I ask an Admin to change it before the 6 month period is over?

The thing is that there are most like plenty of users who are unhappy with their current usernames who would like to have them changed but haven't waited the 6 months yet. If an admin were to change it for you then everyone who didn't like their name but hadn't waited the 6 months would be begging and pleading to get their name changed as well. It would be nice but it would probably cause more harm than good, especially with only one admin. I believe only admins can change people's names.

If you have a good reason to want to change it then an admin might consider it, however if it's just that you're unhappy with it then you're just going to have to wait out the 6 months, as Will said, everyone would want their names changed if you were able to just send a PM.

The main reason why they don't change them on demand is purely because the Admin Control Panel on a board of this size is really hard to navigate and it is really time consuming. And if you have to do 50 of them a day, that's all they would be doing. That is why you must pick carefully when you change your username

Also, if we were to just change people's usernames at will, then it would become very confusing for everyone. Hence the 6-month limit, or you would have people changing their name every other day.
