When lying in bed, asleep and not, and I stretch out my leg or move it I sometimes get cramp in my leg and can't move because it hurts too much. The same happens in my feet. To get rid of it I have to get up out of bed and walk around for five minutes. This is impractical in the middle of the night in a bunk bed 7 or 8 foot off the ground
What should I do to stop it?

It sounds almost exactly like that. According to such, it happens frequently in teenagers, and can have a variety of contributing factors and causes--specifically dehydration, low levels of certain minerals, or decreased blood flow from lying down for a period of time. And it says that walking is what most times helps the cramp to go away. It also suggests gentle stretching or massaging. I would take a look at that article, because after reading it, I'm nearly certain that's what it is.

I hate those so much. Every single time, I pretty much go into ninja mode and launch myself out of bed trying to get rid of it. But yeah, sounds like dehydration could be your issue here.

I have those too. Once I got one through my entire right leg and it was probably the most pain I've ever been in. I also get them in the sole of my foot and my toes.

My dad calls that "getting a Charlie Horse". I don't know why. It happens to me after exercising a bit...on my bike or rowing...something that works my calf muscles in my legs.

Sure would be a tough one to have that happen on the top bunk; OUCH!

Like others have said, you are probably dehydrated. So, drink a lot of water. Also, drinking pickle juice, eating mustard, and eating lots of bananas are short term fixes. They have lots of potassium in them which is supposed to help with cramps.

Drink lots of water. Vitamin water is even better.
I learned that drinking little water causes this, not saying its the only cause. Most people don't drink much water and get these.

Try to cut salt/high sodium foods out of your diet. Avoid eating things like chips, crisps and things like that before bed. Also drink plenty of water.

All these are key things to do to avoid leg cramp whether it be in bed or when you are awake.

That happens to me all the time, I have no health problems. To stop it? I really dont know how exactly you would stop that, because its probably the position you end up after you wake up, and you cant really control yourself while sleeping.

This happened to me once, swimming during P.E.. I wasn't scared I would drown as I can swim very well, but it was quiiite painful. I had to swim with one leg and my arms for most of the way :(.

People above have shown how to combat this.
