I'm Jewish and I'm gay!

Ok im male, 17, and I'm a modern orthodox Jew and it explicitly states in the Torah that we are not allowed to sleep with men. What am I supposed to do? Is it my fault that I was born gay?

My community would send me away or something if they knew I had a boyfriend (I don't) and I feel like I'm going to have to be unhappy my entire life, either that or go against my beliefs and get married to a guy.

Please help!~ :(

It's going to be hard but in the end you've got to choose. You can either accept and be yourself with the man you love or continue holding your secret for the rest of your life, alone and conflicted. If you come out there's always the chance that your family will grow to accept it, that their love is greater than their hate for gay people.

At the end of the day though, it is your choice. You've got to fully understand the implications of both decisions and accept that either way you choose you're going to have to make sacrifices and big changes in your life. Good luck! :)

The first thing you have to know is that it ISN'T your fault that you are gay. I know how hard it is to come from a heavily religious background that condemns homosexuality and then to come to discover that you are gay--trust me, I'm in that boat as well. For me, it's come down to making a choice--do I want to be happy, or do I want to be unhappy all my life and deny a part of who I am just to please my family? In the end, I made my choice to come out, to be happy. Being gay isn't a choice, whether you follow those feelings is. It's something that you have to decide for yourself, because none of us can make that decision for you. But either way, all of us here on VT will support you and help you when you need it--that's what we're here for.
