hm, all hair grows differently but I managed to get mine to shoot down 2 inches in 1 month by protecting my ends and doing many other things. When the ends are damp, seal them with a moisturizing cream. if you can, put your hair in a braid, any protective style really to keep the ends and hair from being snagged and ripped. Unless your hair gets greasy real quick, skip using shampoo every wash, co-wash instead. Shampoo with cones or sulfates strip your hair of the natural oils they need, let the oils do their magic but don't let your hair look dirty if you can. Heat helps hair grow so put your hair in a bun and wear some type of beanie or head thing to keep your head warm. Also, massage your head when you get up and before you go to bed, increase the blood circulation to get the follicles happy.
Now internal help. Proteins, Omega 3 and Vitamin E are some things hair really loves. I myself took those as vitamin supplements, not in one go though. But you can get Omega oils from fish, Salmon's packed with them. Protein from eggs and nuts and such. And vitamin E from nuts as well and Spinach, papaya, olives, avocado and broccoli. I ran out of money so my hair seems to have come to a dead stop in growing, but at least I know those things worked for me. Helps the skin and nails too.
All of those things help (:

I don't know about others but I cut my ends once per month. I straight my hair alot and I damaged half of it with bleach and dye, so it was growing really REALLY slow. It works pretty well but don't expect to be Rapunzel after 3 months. :'D

Cutting the ends is good, but it doesn't work for those with an already slow hair rate. Basically trim your ends when you need to or else you're going to cut back on whatever progress it is you've made and leave your ends still vulnerable at a shorter length, I forgot to say you should probably seal your ends to to protect them.
If your hair is magic and grows 4 inches per month, trim it as you please but don't forget to seal (:

Ohhhhh, I've been growing mine out for a long time now. There is this hair, nail, and skin vitamin I take; Biotin is the name. It not only strengthens hair but it aids in rapid growth. It works for some, mainly it depends on how your body absorbs it. I also rarely use anything with heat on my hair. I let it dry naturally, and if you brush it after a shower-use a comb. A brush will just damage your hair when it's wet. As for trimming it, trimming when needed is of couse best. Don't trim if you don't have to. And also, don't wear it up all the time, or sleep with it up, as this can damage it.

Eat healthy food, take Vitamin E, and drink lots of water. Don't forget to trim your hair once in a while too so that the damaged ends won't take leech from the rest of your hair.

I learned today, though I'm skeptical, that setting yourself upside down for 30 seconds- 1 minute can boost hair follicle activity to help with growth. Something about the blood rushing to the head helps stimulate them. Sounds too easy for me, like it's too good to be true and I'm not sure if the blood rushing to your head's any good. But I thought I'd just let you know that could be something to research if interested.
