I posted this question on WUGNET, (linked to but no longer affiliated with Toshiba) but I've had a lot of problems with my notebook (I had to bring it in for warranty repairs) that I found my post to have been deleted. They probably think I'm some sort of joker. :P (I'm not going to be buying Toshiba products anymore.)

I was reading some .DOC files with WordPad (I don't have MS Office, and I felt too lazy to use OpenOffice), when I heard Windows XP make its hardware removed/unplugged chime. I had recently printed, but I had since turned off the printer and removed its plug from the outlet. It was a while since I unplugged the printer, so that couldn't have been the "hardware" to be removed. What could have prompted the sound?

I get that sometimes, I think it's just a case of that it's very delayed in noticing that it has been unplugged. You could go onto Device Manager to make sure that everything is functioning properly. In any case I don't think there's anything to worry about.
