I am 13 and i have yet to get my period. Although one of my friends is 12, wears a size 00 jeans has gotten hers, almost 8 months ago. How come she got hers so much earlier than I will? Does is have something to do with genetics? I am about 5 foot 5 or 5 foot 6. I wear about a size 1 jeans. And wear around a 32A. Any help would be great.

I also have another question. When i sit with my feet up on a chair, so my knees are near my face, I can smell something. I am guessing it is some kind of odor from my vagina. It's not pleasant. Although it isn't fishy, like some people say could be a sign of infection. I don't have any pain or redness. The only problm I have had within the last few months was a small pimple about 2 weeks ago. Although that went away. Is this odor soemthing I should be worried about? I am always afraid that other people can smell it too.

1) She's just different from you and it came earlier for her. Yeah, genetics plays a part, but that's just when she got it. You're not weird or anything :P

2) You should ask your mom or a doctor about this just to make sure whether it's an infection or not. Sounds like it is, so just make sure to wash down there well and like I said ask somebody, like a doctor to get it checked out. No biggie, just don't want anybody else to smell it or for it to get worse :P
That's my opinion

Couldn't have said it better myself! Really...

Just make sure you wash yourself really diligently down there, and then it shouldn't be a problem. I don't think it has to do with infection (but don't take that as advice to not talk to someone about it) since guys also get "zits" and stuff in that area, but mostly that's due to exess oil building up on our genitals due to... certain activities that require lotion :D .

Well yes. I do wash down there every time I am in the shower. And while the smell seems to go away for about an hour or so after I get out of the shower, it returns soon after that. Could that just be the scent of the soap wearing off? I said something to my mom about it, and she told me not to worry about it, if it doesn't hurt then it isn't an infection or anything to worry about. So I suppose that's good news.

Well if it doesn't hurt then that doesn't mean that there's no infection, you should go to the doctor to make sure.

Yea I understand that if it doesn't hurt that doesn't mean that there isn't an infection. But, my mom probably won't bring me to the doctor's because it doesn't hurt.

Well, you could probally go down to the doctor's yourself, or demand that you want to see a doctor.

Ha. Go down to the doctor's myself. That's not a good idea. And demand? My mom would probably just yell. And then my dad would get mad too. So I guess until it starts hurting, or goes away, I am out of luck.

But thanks for the ideas anyways.

No problem. Everyone has their own distinct odor, and maybe it really doesn't smell as bad as you think; it just smells bad to your gender. That is, we give of scents (pheremones) and blah blah blah long story short you'll always have a "smell" but it's really not as bad as you think (guys might even like it :D) .

Everyone goes thru puberty at their own rate, your friends rate is a bit faster/sooner than yours. At 13, though, I don't think your that far behind, hang in there, stuff will happen soon (I think girls get their period anywhere between 10 and 16, so there's a pretty big range).

Odors are hard to diagnose online. Everyone has a smell, and vaginas have a smell, too. And, during puberty, the hormones cause the vagina to develop it's own smell. The smell shouldn't be bad, though, it shouldn't be offensive. Maybe you're just noticing it becuse it's a new smell, part of puberty, not that it's offensive?

I think if there was an infection associated with the odor there would be other symptoms like a discharge, burning, maybe a fever, and a rather foul smell.

Maybe just a chat with your mom about puberty, some of the concerns you have, might answer some of these questions, and give you the info and reassurance you want. Go talk with your mom.

Exactly. I tried so smell my "area" and noticed IT had a smell to. But I actually wouldn't call it BAD, actually... it's really hard to describe, but it smells almost satisfying. Like I can't stop smelling it. It's like when you smell something really bad and just can't stop smelling it (cuz it's soo bad) but the smell just isn't bad here.

I dunno... I hope you understand...

Everyone is different. :) You're only 13, you're still going through puberty, you'll probably start getting your period within the next year or to or sooner (though if you don't have it by around the age of sixteen, you should see a doctor. Still, nothing to worry about, you're still young. :) ).

Scientists at a certian college have performed tests and proved that smells to the other gender dont smell as bad as the person thinks. Heres how the test went. They had a bunch of guys play around and sweat into a white teashirt. They took the teachirts back to someplace and had a bunch of girls come in. They then had them rate how bad and how good the teahirts smelled. Every girl had a different rating based on how she liked them. Smells can differ to other people and you shouldnt be worried about anything. Some guys may find it appealling.

dont worry about not getting your period. i didnt get mine until just before turning 16. and then it happens every month for the next 40 or so years. its not all that great.

as for the smell, just keep things clean. if theres no redness, itchiness, irritation, or odd colored discharge then you should be fine. if you're worried that it smells than mist your pants just once with your body spray.
