View Full Version : No battery detected

This is killing me to no end.

On Saturday I got a new battery for my computer. Everything was working fine, till today.

I used up nearly all my battery when I was at another building, so I hibernated my computer and went back to my dorm room to charge. But when I went to charge, it kept saying "plugged in and not charging". I tried to unplug and then plug again, but that didn't work. Then all of the sudden it tells me there's no battery. That happened yesterday, but I fixed it by taking out and putting the battery in again (took a few tries). I did that again, and for a while it "charges", but there's no % and eventually it stops charging and says there's no battery detected. I already did that a few times, but it still won't properly charge. Restarting my computer did not help.

What is going on?? :/

I had to get a new battery because the old one had problems. Occasionally the computer will shut down suddenly. The old battery died out quickly, and it didn't tell me the amount of time left. My laptop's model is Acer Aspire.

I can revert back to my old battery, but I won't be able to use it for a very long time without a charger, not to mention the occasional unexpected shut down.

EDIT: okay, I've unplugged and replugged, and the red x is gone. But it's still not charging

EDIT #2: Temporarily reverted to old battery. Gonna tell my mom about the new battery's problem, she said if there's any problem to tell her and she'll return it and I think buy a new one -_-

That happened to my mac as well. I'm not sure what the problem was, to be completely honest, but I didn't use it for a day or so and then it all went back to normal.
It may just be a connection problem? Maybe you need to clean the connection area.

Go to Acer's website and check if there are any updates for your laptop's BIOS. Make sure you do the flash while you're connected to the charger and leave both batteries out to make sure the power doesn't get interrupted during the flash process.

Sounds like a dodgy battery. Was the new battery an original one made for your computer or just a compatible one?

On a side note to what Shadow said. Where did you get the battery from? Was it Online?

I have bought a few laptop stuff including a battery and chargers before online and some of them were real bad.

I have no idea, my parents got it for me. I'm pretty sure they got it from a store, as my dad is good with computers, he wouldn't buy one online...I'll need to ask

Compatible batteries have a tendency to fail a lot. If I were you I'd ask for a refund and buy a battery made by the manufacturer.

My mom's laptop has the same issue all I have to do to correct it is to wiggle round the end of the cord that plugs into the laptop a little and then it starts working again, Perhaps your charging circuit is bad. I really don't know

that didn't work, but I still think it's definitely the battery.
