Overall, I'd say that boxers are still the most common underwear. But I do have to say that boxer briefs are really starting to become way more common than they used to be. Actually, most of my friends who used to wear boxers have now switched over to be boxer briefs.

I think in middle school and high school the majority of guys wear boxers simply because it's the "cool" underwear and they don't want to get made fun of if they wore anything else. A lot of guys still continue to wear boxers after high school, but I know that A LOT of guys switch over to something else. Simply because they don't care about what's "cool" anymore. They are more concerned with what is more comfortable and more supportive. I'd still say that boxers are the most common, but I think boxer briefs are starting to become more "in" these days.

I think up until your about 10/12 its the white underwear, then around 10-12 its briefs and after that in your teen years you move onto boxers to "look cooler" and because they feel better. At least with me thats how it is..

Its changed at school as my year has got older. There are less boxers than boxer-briefs/trunks, and I'm in the minority with briefs but 2 years ago guys wore a lot more boxers. I'd say maybe 60% trunk style boxer-briefs, 25% boxers, 15% briefs roughly.

At the gym I see a lot of the older guys in boxers, but the younger men (i.e. under 30) are almost always boxer-briefs / trunks.
