Why is everyone so bent on protecting the past, when we should worry about the future. I understand the past is interesting, but when the alarms are going off and we have fifteen minutes until world-wide nuclear war, stone hedge won't do sh*t to us. Its sad, really.:(

We should know and study the past so we don't make the same mistakes we made back then. Because people who don't know their past are doomed to repeat it.

We learn from the past so we don't make the same mistakes in the future. Plus it's important to know the past because don't you want to know what happened before you existed rather than being an ignorant fool? We do worry about the future but there isn't much you can do because it hasn't happened yet and it's unpredictable. You can't waste time worrying about the uknowns so much but you can learn from the past to be a more well-rounded person that can be better prepared for the future, whatever should happen.
Edit: Dangit Alex you beat me :P

I think what his partly trying to say is, why do we protect the past more than we protect our future.

Well we protect the past so it wont be forgotten in the growing ignorance of people today.

We study the past so we can understand the history of Earth. We can learn stuff that can help protect our future. We can learn loads of other stuff, like strategies of war, health strategies, and technology tips.

Meh, why worry about the mistakes of tomorrow when you're still dealing with the problems of yesterday? XD

I think that before we can truly understand the future, we need a clear understanding of the past. You never know what's ahead, so it helps to know what's behind you. You ever wonder what happened to certain civilizations (i.e. the Mayans or the Neanerthals), well maybe if we fully understood why they dropped off the face of the Earth, we ourselves could avoid dropping off the face of the Earth. The better we understand the past, the more ready we are to face the impact that the future is bringing. The whole world is not obsessing over the past, in fact, only historians obsess over the past, the past is vital to future success though, so we can't just forget about it and look straight forward.

I completely disagree with what you said and completely agree with Redcar. I think there could be no truer definition of evil if we let monuments of the past crumble to oblivion.

Wait, you completely disagree with me or #1 Anbu, because I basically said the same thing as Alex (Redcar), so if you're disagreeing with me; well that's just interesting.
