View Full Version : VT's moderators should be moderated!

I think the moderators on this site are closing threads that are following the rules. Has anybody else had this issue? And if this thread gets closed then I will snap! Because I have already had to send a complaint I don't want to have to send any more. I will report the site if they are telling people certain rules, and then suggesting that people aren't following them when they are, because it classes as unfair treatment and bullying, and it's the same as me saying to somebody "Here you can have £1000 if you can keep an egg on a spoon whilst running 100 meters." then they complete the task successfully, and I refuse to give them the money and tell them that they failed because they also had to do it within 10 seconds. Any thoughts people? Anyone else had the same problem? This thread is not designed to break any rules and if it does then rather than closing it, simply say so and I will edit out the bits that are inappropriate. Maybe that's something that can be done; have moderators edit any posts that aren't appropriate and word them or change them so they are?

I don't know if you have a full grasp of the rules here... We don't close threads for no reason and we already do edit posts if they can be changed to be more appropriate. If a thread is inappropriate or unacceptable then it will be locked. A lot of people use the site for the wrong reasons, when people do that their posts are handled appropriately.

Threads get closed when people post in them after 2 months because they're old and most likely irrelevant after such a long time. Maybe they're the threads you're seeing being locked. If you have a problem with a mod then take it up with the admin (scarface (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/member.php?u=19064)), there's only one at the moment so he'd look over the situation for you and do what he thinks is best. Mods are allowed to edit out inappropriate things like contact details and explicit content in threads, and they do, they make it known that they have as they write in red and sign it. Personally I've had no problem with threads getting locked, they're usually in the wrong anyhow.

Well the certain categories of the site state the content; and then if you post in those categories and your thread is within the rules of that section of the website, and it gets closed, it defeats the purpose of the category therefore there is no point in having that area of the site if you cannot post in there; and this happens in every category so overall the site's entire purpose is being defeated. I do read and follow the rules, and I try my best to stick to them at all times; nothing I post ever causes offence, I never swear at people, I don't say bullying or racist things etc etc etc and yet I still get, should we say, told off by the moderators and it does not help my depression at all, and it's unfair treatment.

I know what you mean, I like most of the moderators, but a few of them I think are smartasses and think they are better than everybody else ( I won't name any ). That is just my opinion, but every website will have at least a few assholes. Overall though I think VT is awesome and a lot of people on here are really nice, only a few people on here are pricks. VT is definitely better than "yahoo answers " though, over half of the people on there are trolls and dickheads.

That is all true, but I am really on about creating a new thread and having it locked even if it follows the rules of the specific area of the site. Also I have noticed you have swear words in your quotes, which is not appropriate for the site really, if someone is offended by bad language. Plus people can be arrested under section 5 Public Order act for swearing in a public place so I would assume it's against the rules of the site??

swearing is not against the rules, it only is if it's excessively used and I believe against another member.

Bocefus 7 I completely agree... most of the moderators are perfectly okay but you're right there are some which I won't name either, but I think everyone knows who they are, who go around closing pretty much every thread they see probably for the fun of it. I don't understand how people become moderators, maybe the mods could help me understand, because do they become one after a certain amount of posts, or do they get elected etc?

They are chosen by the admins, either with or without applications.
I don't think ANY mod closes threads for the fun of it. that would be abusing their powers, in my opinion.

first of all, we aren't ten, we can swear :p
i've looked at your threads, and if you're talking about this one, (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=152084) it's obviously not dealing with puberty. Of course, it might be sex ed, but that was not a very appropriate thing to say, in my opinion, and it was the moderators discretion.
although i don't really see a huge problem with this one, (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=150830) Derri feels that it isn't dealing with puberty either. These questions are supposed to deal with puberty or questions about sex, not how to have it.
This (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=151415) isn't right for a website full of teenagers. The reason it was locked is, once again, it isn't puberty nor is it sex ed.
I didn't mean to come across as rude, just hope I answered why they were locked, or as it seemed.

See... by saying "we aren't ten we can swear" you are really taking the mick; I know we are old enough but remember even adults can be offended by bad language and it is actually ILLEGAL! And I have seen many questions posted like that on which have not been closed, and it's a simple question, does not cause offence, it is only asking for advice which it what the site is meant for. Please read the title at the top... "Virtual Teen... Recover, LEARN and grow together" not "Post, get told off, get p!**ed off, Leave the site"! I find your post quite humiliating to be honest and also inappropriate and if I were a moderator I would have ti removed.

Let's take a look at all of your threads which a moderator has locked.
1. "If you finger a girl...."
This question is discussing sexual techniques. That is not why the puberty sections here exist. They are here so teens can get answers on the actual process of puberty, not how to have sex.
2. "favorite place to masturbate..."
This question, like the one above, has nothing to do with puberty or sexual education. Sure, teens may be curious about it, but it is not something that pertains to the category of, "sexual education."
3. "Sexual wishes..."
This was a survey discussing all different sexual techniques and actions. While that may be a part of puberty, it is one that is borderline inappropriate for this site (as the moderator who locked the post said), and no knowledge of puberty or sexual education could really be gained, deeming in unneeded here.

Also, I see people the age of 10-13-15 saying they do all sorts of sexual things which are illegal, how come NONE of them EVER EVER EVER get told off even though they're all breaking the law? That is one thing this site baffles me about! You have got literally hundreds of little girls and boys that are like 13 years old having sex and not a single person bats an eyelid! It's illegal, unlawful, inappropriate, against their parents rules etc, they should be the first to get told off.

look the mods are mods for a reason. They get chosen to do the job because the administrators say that they could do it. they arent randomly Picked. As for threads being locked. Threads are locked for a reason that reason is usually stated in the post where the mod locks it. if there isnt one said PM the the mod that locked it and they will tell you. As for Erics post. IF you were a mod you would remove it. well sorry to tell you but you cant remove posts unless they are breaking Rules which Erics wasnt. As for swearing. Ill say what ever the fuck i want whenever the fuck i want. you cant stop me. there are few people that can stop me from swearing on here Mods, admins and the law...i take that back the law cant do shit to me because i could give a fuck less. you see the sexual things in P101. thats why its there. If they arent they arent breaking the rules. If you think there is a thread breaking the Rules OM a staff member and they make the decision to lock it or not. Oh and mods dont go around locking threads for fun. if they did would be fired from the position. any questions?

That thread, in no way, is racially degrading. It is simply asking a certain group of people a question, and there is nothing wrong with that.
As for the other thread you mentioned: Mods are not robots. We do not live on this site 24/7, so, if you see a thread that you think is not appropriate, then click the "wanring sign" under it. This sends a report to the moderators so we can look into it.

Since you seem to only be talking about P101 (that isn't the only use of the site, but I guess hardly anyone realises that) people use this site as a safe place to ask questions and find out the answers. We can't tell these 13 year olds to not have sex? They join the site in confidence and they really is nothing we can do other than educate them as best we can on the dangers.
There are lots of illegal things going on in the world. By having sites like this and making people aware of what they're getting themselves into (this also appplies to things like drugs, alcohol ect) we can maybe minimise those who hurt themselves by doing so. If VT and sits like it were not around people may be more naive towards the dangers of the things children as young as 13 (as you specified) now find acceptable to be doing. Just the opposite point of view for you to think about.
Also, people are allowed to swear. People can't hunt down every swear word on the internet and punish people for it? I don't see how people might find it offensive since it was in no way directed at them but I guess that's your opinion. However it's in the rules and by swearing I'm still abiding by them, we all are.

Although that is of little regard in this case. Were the server in the UK, swearing would still be at the discretion of the site moderators. The point about swearing is utterly irrelevant nonsense, as the law cited obviously is not, nor would be, applicable. I don't believe that it is even applicable to the Internet under any context (though I may be incorrect there).

Local laws probably still apply. But the majority of users don't break any laws. Your cited laws aren't applicable because the possibility of a user acting on a threat (for example) is so small. And the use of swearing is dependant on context.
Being a brit, I still disagree entirely, any person can answer any thread if they have information related to the topic.
And back to the OP
Post at your discretion, as long as your content does not break site rules it is unlikely it is against any law.
Both of the 'locked threads' in your case appear to be asking for sexual techniques and provocative material
which isn't allowed so I wouldn't expect help there.

The server is located in the United States, therefore it follows the laws of the United States.
Users of a website must abide by not only the laws of the territory in which the server is located, but also of their own country. Fortunately, swearing in public would only be illegal in a very vague interpretation of the law which is no longer enforced and would not at all stand up in court. Swearing in public did used to be illegal in the UK, but no longer so that is not a concern.

I not on this site much at all but through my observations I must say a few things.
One: to the poster of this thread, if you are posting originally regarding your threads that got locked... you are in the wrong. Your posts were indeed extremely innapopriate for this site.
Two: I feel that many of the moderators are immature themselves, I have seen fowl language (which is NOT illegal in this setting, but I feel that moderators should NOT use this language) It makes me lose respect for you when you are in a position of power and do not act it. - I have seen what I could label as bullying done by the moderators. That IS illegal, a moderator should not have any reason to post against a member especially in a negative mannor.
I guess what I am saying is that the moderators should "control themselves" (I say that losely) and maybe, possibly act in a mannor that is fit for their positions.
My two cents on this matter,
Take Care Everyone

If you have any issues with a thread or if you think you're being unfairly treated by a moderator or a moderators decision, then you PM me. The threads are locked as per the rules, if you were to read the rules of the specific forums in the announcement you would realize that, however you failed to do so, then making some thread like this. If you read the FAQ then you would see how the rules (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/faq.php?faq=rules) are implemented. If you don't like how this site is run, you are not obligated to stay here.
