Spook

I thought I heard you screaming
And I know that she loved you
But when I saw her leaving
I knew she had left you
I found you in the shower
Curled up on the floor
It's no bother knocking
Your dignity was torn
Soft brown hair and sweet blue eyes
Blood running down the drain
You winced at every touch I made
Drowning in your pain
I shut the water off so you
Could get a breath
But you lay there open-eyed
And saw what you had left
I picked the knife off of the counter
And sliced along my wrist
So I could once retaliate
For all the cuts you'd made
You looked at me and blinked for a time
And stuttered out the words
And yet I couldn't hear them for there was still water in your lungs
I helped you up, not looking at your body
Bare against mine
And you cried against my shoulder
As I helped you dry
I patched up the places where your blood ran to waste
And showered kisses upon your face
Beautiful boy, lonely boy
I won't be leaving
If she isn't there, to be there
I'll give you a reason
Months have past and you have scars
For nobody they fade away
You'll always have that one reminder
Of your undying pain
You haven't talked to me,
You haven't called
You left me
She left you
I'm still here
And you're not
So I turn the water on
And I take the knife
And the sharp kiss of the blade
So my blood runs down to mingle with yours
And that's as close as we will be together
But I'm alone and you don't come
I don't hear your footsteps
At the door
You don't open it
Or come to my side
Turn off the water
I can't breathe.
And then I think
Maybe drowning is a better way to die
But then I hear your strangled cry
Your bare skin on the ground
And I cough water
But it's too late
When I grip the side and try
To rise and run away
I am strangled down and drowned
Once more I remember the once silly phrase
"Be careful what you wish for"
As I wished upon my death
Because once you're in
So far in
And you struggle hard for out
The only way you'll be falling is deeper
Drowning
Screaming
And you're not there.
She left you.
I came.
You left.
I stayed.
And I know that she loved you
But when I saw her leaving
I knew she had left you
I found you in the shower
