Hey all! I have to do a survey of 100 people for my Psychology class on a nature vs. nurture topic, and my topic ended up being homosexuality. If you would be willing to participate in the survey, just with either "yes" or "no" answers I would greatly appreciate it! If you would prefer to leave a question blank just write SKIP. Then at the end are just a few demographics questions that I need for the data as required by the teacher. Thanks!
1. Do you feel that external influences during one’s childhood and adolescence can cause homosexuality in an individual?
2. Do you believe a person is born either gay or straight?
3. Do you believe a male who grows up without a father or father figure is more likely to be gay than one who grew up with a father?
4. Charles Manson is reported to have been involved in homosexuality at points in his life, even reportedly raping another boy as a teen. Was this sort of behavior something that was already within him?
5. Homosexuality was widely practiced by the Ancient Greeks and Romans. Do you believe this was just a part of their culture?
6. Is being gay a natural behavior, since we have observed homosexual behavior in animals other than humans?
7. Are people who are sexually abused as children more likely to become involved in non-traditional relationships as adults?
8. Since homosexuality negates the ability to reproduce, could this have been a behavior that evolved?
9. If a child grows up in an environment where being gay is condemned, do you think they will be more likely to be straight?
10. Is being gay natural if many societies throughout history and even still today consider the practice of homosexuality to be taboo?

1. Do you feel that external influences during one’s childhood and adolescence can cause homosexuality in an individual? Yes. Throughout your life your brain grows and develops, like the rest of your body. If you cage a human in a basement from birth that human will revert to primal instinct and become animalistic in nature. If a human is exposed to homosexuality - such as being brought up by a gay couple - why should the same thing not happen?
2. Do you believe a person is born either gay or straight? No.
3. Do you believe a male who grows up without a father or father figure is more likely to be gay than one who grew up with a father? Not necessarily, however they are most likely bound to have some kind of longing for a same gender role model, be it sexual or not.
4. Charles Manson is reported to have been involved in homosexuality at points in his life, even reportedly raping another boy as a teen. Was this sort of behavior something that was already within him? With him at birth? No. With him before this incident? Yes.
5. Homosexuality was widely practiced by the Ancient Greeks and Romans. Do you believe this was just a part of their culture? Yes.
6. Is being gay a natural behavior, since we have observed homosexual behavior in animals other than humans? Yes.
7. Are people who are sexually abused as children more likely to become involved in non-traditional relationships as adults? To some extent, yes.
8. Since homosexuality negates the ability to reproduce, could this have been a behavior that evolved? There could have been homosexual animals since the point at which animals were able to reproduce. There's just more likely to have been a larger number of heterosexual animals, which is why we evolved rather quickly.
9. If a child grows up in an environment where being gay is condemned, do you think they will be more likely to be straight? Yes.
10. Is being gay natural if many societies throughout history and even still today consider the practice of homosexuality to be taboo? Just because something is frowned upon does not mean it is not natural.

1. Do you feel that external influences during one’s childhood and adolescence can cause homosexuality in an individual?
I believe that there might be some existential influences from the environment that might make a person question their sexual orientation.
EXAMPLE: A young boy who lives with his mother for the majority of his life without any real influence from a male figure could then cause this child to see things in a more feminine lifestyle as that is what he is accustomed to. He speaks more like a female then a stereotypical male would.
2. Do you believe a person is born either gay or straight?
I do believe a person is born gay, straight, bisexual and so on but as I stated above there are, in my opinion that some circumstances can influence a decision.
3. Do you believe a male who grows up without a father or father figure is more likely to be gay than one who grew up with a father?
I believe so but it is a small percentage in my head...I know of two personal friends who grew up this way and yes, one is gay and the other is bisexual but leans towards guys.
4. Charles Manson is reported to have been involved in homosexuality at points in his life, even reportedly raping another boy as a teen. Was this sort of behavior something that was already within him?
I am not familiar with the Charles Manson case...I chose not to respond.
5. Homosexuality was widely practiced by the Ancient Greeks and Romans. Do you believe this was just a part of their culture?
Yes I do, it was practiced among the upper social classes of the Greek and Roman empire...
6. Is being gay a natural behavior, since we have observed homosexual behavior in animals other than humans?
Yes, it is natural but not always widely accepted like in natural among other species.
7. Are people who are sexually abused as children more likely to become involved in non-traditional relationships as adults?
There are millions of cases that present this to be true...
8. Since homosexuality negates the ability to reproduce, could this have been a behavior that evolved?
Not in my opinion, I believe to be a result of not being with another person who has the ability to facilitate an embryo in the womb of a female.
9. If a child grows up in an environment where being gay is condemned, do you think they will be more likely to be straight?
No, I think it allows them to think more openly and freely than if they were to grow up in a place where homosexuality was not accepted.
10. Is being gay natural if many societies throughout history and even still today consider the practice of homosexuality to be taboo?
Yes, not as much a taboo as much as a social mores...but that is getting too much into sociology and I do not go there...not my thing. We all grow up with societal influences and have to make decisions for ourselves when we grow up.

1. Do you feel that external influences during one’s childhood and adolescence can cause homosexuality in an individual? I believe that while it is uncommon, sexuality can be influenced to a degree by childhood/adolescent experience.
2. Do you believe a person is born either gay or straight? For the most part, yes. Nobody chooses their sexuality. Sorry if this is confusing.
3. Do you believe a male who grows up without a father or father figure is more likely to be gay than one who grew up with a father? NO (they're more likely to join Project Mayhem though)
4. Charles Manson is reported to have been involved in homosexuality at points in his life, even reportedly raping another boy as a teen. Was this sort of behavior something that was already within him? Yes.
5. Homosexuality was widely practiced by the Ancient Greeks and Romans. Do you believe this was just a part of their culture? No, I believe it was more widely accepted, therefore more widely known.
6. Is being gay a natural behavior, since we have observed homosexual behavior in animals other than humans? YES YES YES!
7. Are people who are sexually abused as children more likely to become involved in non-traditional relationships as adults? *meep* I dunno, you tell me. SKIP.
8. Since homosexuality negates the ability to reproduce, could this have been a behavior that evolved? Evolution required reproduction. So no.
9. If a child grows up in an environment where being gay is condemned, do you think they will be more likely to be straight? No, they will be more likely to be depressed.
10. Is being gay natural if many societies throughout history and even still today consider the practice of homosexuality to be taboo? Yes. It's natural! The only reason it's considered taboo is because of the patriarchal societies that were founded and kept alive around the world by the minority, in this case straight, older men who wanted to put everyone else down and make themselves feel superior.

No, but they will most likely try to deny the fact as long as they can, if not, indefinitely.
10. Is being gay natural if many societies throughout history and even still today consider the practice of homosexuality to be taboo?
Yes, people are just stubborn and don't agree with it because "that's what's done."

2. Do you believe a person is born either gay or straight? Yes.
3. Do you believe a male who grows up without a father or father figure is more likely to be gay than one who grew up with a father? No.
Yes.
6. Is being gay a natural behavior, since we have observed homosexual behavior in animals other than humans? Culture and simply them being born that way.
7. Are people who are sexually abused as children more likely to become involved in non-traditional relationships as adults? Higher chances, but it can always not happen.
8. Since homosexuality negates the ability to reproduce, could this have been a behavior that evolved? I don't think so.
9. If a child grows up in an environment where being gay is condemned, do you think they will be more likely to be straight? It's all in genetics in my opinion.
10. Is being gay natural if many societies throughout history and even still today consider the practice of homosexuality to be taboo? It is natural, but society is too used to the normality of man and woman being together, so they deem homosexuality to be something completely out of the normality of society when it is in fact normal.

You ask for yes or no, but many of these are grey areas...
1. Do you feel that external influences during one’s childhood and adolescence can cause homosexuality in an individual? Yes
2. Do you believe a person is born either gay or straight?Somewhat, genetics influences one's orientation, however lifestyle/how one was raised has an impact too
3. Do you believe a male who grows up without a father or father figure is more likely to be gay than one who grew up with a father? Depends on the parents
4. Charles Manson is reported to have been involved in homosexuality at points in his life, even reportedly raping another boy as a teen. Was this sort of behavior something that was already within him? A bit of both
5. Homosexuality was widely practiced by the Ancient Greeks and Romans. Do you believe this was just a part of their culture?Homosexuality is a part of any culture, even if the culture dictate's it's praised, shunned, or left to be as it will.
6. Is being gay a natural behavior, since we have observed homosexual behavior in animals other than humans? Technically everything is natural, but not being anal, yes, matter it not if other animals do
7. Are people who are sexually abused as children more likely to become involved in non-traditional relationships as adults? Depends on the individual
8. Since homosexuality negates the ability to reproduce, could this have been a behavior that evolved? Well, the more sexual an animal the more it reproduces. If one generation in this hypothetical hyper-sexual species if one happens to mate with another male it was a coincidental happening that went along with evolution
9. If a child grows up in an environment where being gay is condemned, do you think they will be more likely to be straight? Most often yes, they will be fed it is unsanitary at a young age, and like myself with bathrooms, may become mildly germaphobic
10. Is being gay natural if many societies throughout history and even still today consider the practice of homosexuality to be taboo? Again, natural is somewhat subjective here, so going by the stereotypical connotation even if something is shunned it doesn't necessarily need to be liked. We all hurt, we all poop, we all die, facts of life we don't like aren't any less natural
