Tighty whitey's are just small speedo-sized briefs that are, as the name implies, tight and white. So no, those don't apply. I personally don't wear boxer briefs, but a lot of people do, and it's no big deal.

i see guys in white boxer briefs alot, but we have to wear white underwear as part of our uniform. but even in a regular school they should be ok

You won't get made fun of for wearing those, as they aren't briefs (or tighty whities). I wore them all through high school and I never got made fun of while changing in the locker room or even when I am just around my friends. A lot of guys wear boxer briefs, including some of my friends and some other guys that I have seen changing in the locker room. You are definitely safe wearing those! :D

If anyone said anything I would be tempted to tell them "I'm not your boyfriend, you don't get to chose my underwear"

Boys wear every different type at my school, I wear the speedo type / briefs style because they are comfortable for me, work well under skinny jeans and imho look sexah.

Just wear what you want and ignore the immature idiots : ask them exactly why they are obsessed with your underpants if they give you grief.
