So I know a couple of people who do self harm themselves, and I'm wonder if there's anything that a friend might be a able to do, to help them stop

yes just support them as much as you can.

a friend can always help , u can try talk to them and show them ur there no matter what and tell them if they ever got the urge to self harm they should call/text u
u can try to cheer them up when they are down

As others have said just be there for that person as best you can, but don't push them into something that they don't want to or get annoyed or angry at them as it won't help.
Also agree with Breakeven, let them know they can always text or phone you if they get the urge.
