Well, you admitted that it made little sense to do so. That is how some people feel after they cut for the first time, but sometimes, you may begin to think that it helps.
It doesn't. All it does is provide temporary relief to a problem that can either be solved, avoided, or ignored. Of course, that is not an easy thing to do most of the time, but it isn't worth hurting yourself over.
If this is only the first time, and you don't see (shouldn't see) it developing into anything more, find a way to distract yourself from it. Be with other people. Find a hobby you really are passionate about. Start a project you have always wanted to do. Anything that can at least take your mind off of it.
If this does develop into something more serious, then that may be a time to talk to someone you can trust. I would just play it by ear right now, though. If you do want to talk to someone about it, though, make sure it is someone you can really trust.

I'm so sorry that you gave in, it can be a very hard thing to struggle with, each slash lessening the pain. I truly believe cutting is a drug, because it sends out the 'feel good' hormones. Try to stop, or talk to a counselor or a friend about what's troubling you. If you're thinking of suicide, don't do it, you can have an amazing life ahead of you, a beautiful family and maybe the job of your lifetime.
