do you think it would be illegal to use torrents for a good reason i.e not getting a game you payed for? or for a hard to get open-source game?
and what about if your using them because your broke and just want that file you have to pay for?

Torrenting isn't illegal. downloading copyrighted material via torrent is.
Also, I don't believe it's wrong for a variety of reasons:
- Data shows that the illegal acquirement of electronic media has no tangible effect on that media's end profit
- Intellectual property isn't a legitimate form of property
- Pirating can actually increase the amount of exposure that data files get

Torrenting is good for the environment :D When you buy something in a store, you end up with packaging, which is usually plastic and paper. When you torrent, you're going green. Specifically, this shade of green:

I don't think we should believe all the "facts" that officials give us regarding copyright. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZadCj8O1-0

The current open state of the Internet makes government policing of illegal downloading practically impossible. I think the current law concerning this issue is as far as it should go. It's up to the media companies to define what an "infringement" is, and it's their job to go out and find whoever they consider infringers. Websites like The Pirate Bay and isohunt should still be protected by the DMCA's "safe harbor" act. I don't believe in having the goverment step into this issue, as the ramifications for internet privacy and the open nature of the Internet, which has generated unprecedented economic growth, are extremely high.

I'm not going to make a long post about moral reasons and things like that. This post will just be a shit honest post about how I feel.
Yeah, I think when I torrent it's a bad thing. I "justify" this by buying the product later on if I liked what I DL'd. It's offensive to take art that someone has worked really fucking hard on, download it in ten seconds, watch, then delete it in my opinion. Truly, I don't know if you would describe an act like that as so offensive and evil that it should be illegal. In terms of law, yes, which it already is. In terms of art, no, but it's still offensive to do so.
The idea is to pretend you're some gangster kingpin when you download something hoping your peerblock and all that shit is working, then just to the evil deed trying to not feel bad for doing so. That's pretty much what I think to myself. Being a badass can be quite a bad thing, you know, but that's what it takes if you want to be a badass - you have to take the certain initiations.
blah lol

Theres a lot of good and bad about it.
Many MMO games use torrents when they update the game so it doesn't put a strain on there servers when everyone downloads it

I don't believe in using torrents to download files illegally. I'm fine with it when it's used legally.

I illegally download music and films using torrents. It's only because I'm not made of money and if I could buy all the albums I download, I would.
I have bought about five albums using my own money, only the best of my 31GB library. There are some albums from bands that arn't very popular that you can't get a hold of in shops, and have to download them off iTunes or buy them off eBay. So I just torrent download them, I have been thinking about buying a few off eBay, but I need to establish a more permanent supply of income before I can do that.

micro green? or possibly mu green? if it's micro green i don't think that it's going to have that much of an influence and you can recycle plastic and paper.

I tend to illegally torrent files that I paid for but never got or have lost. we all know not everyone is mae of money. thats only for the rich people. For instance i bought a copy of portal 2 off Gamestop as a direct download but I was never able to download it because of my computer freaking out over their download client. so now I'm torrenting it so I get my money's worth. my mom thinks illegal to use a torrent client at all because they took limewire down several years ago.
however there is the upside of being able too resume your downloads perfectly fine if you accidentally close it out.
