Yeah, VT works fine on mobile devices, you just press cancel when a pop up comes up saying "This forum works on mobile, click OK to find out about Tapatalk!" or some shit like that.
I'd say go for the Amazon Kindle Fire/ Fire HD or the Google Nexus. Those are the two I'd recommend, both running Android of course. Or a blackberry playbook may be to your liking too, but I would always go for the android tablets first.

Microsoft Surface (and other Windows 8 and RT-based tablets), one tablet to rule them all, since they have a full-featured Office suite, and in the case of the Surface Pro, everything that you can run on your computer runs on it as well. (RT based devices can run everything thats an App, but not legacy software. Those can and have to be updated -including games-)
None of the office apps are as useful as the actual Office programs. And of course, nothing beats running the same actual programs and games on your tablet that you do on your desktop and / or laptop.
TBH, all currently available tablets are just overpriced toys, specially the android-based ones. The new Windows-based ones are the ones changing that.

Apple tablets are the greatest! I've managed to only use VT from my ipad( unless I'm updating my avatar)
I love my iPad and do my homework from it and post from it.

And that other guy was stating his opinion. Do you see how annoying it is when people say their opinions and people shoot it down right away? You asked what tablets are good. People are allowed to voice their opinions even though you won't take it into consideration.

actually when the surface tablet comes out it will run Windows 8. you should be able to save your documents to them.
anyways I'd just do it the hard way and convert my laptop to a tablet. then i'd have a stylish macbuntu tablet ^_^

but what about us who mod our OS's to look like mac? and honestly I would rather just get ubuntu and mod it to look like mac. although you can get hackingtosh for like, what. $30? anyways hackintosh is cheaper than the real deal :P but then there is the system instability increase. i've used Mac OS X and it is quite nice to have. but nomatter how nice it may be its not worth $30K to buy a Macbook

The surface tablet doesn't seem like a bad investment actually. It runs windows and comes with Office; you may want to consider that and the Google nexus neck-and-neck.

Have you considered that the OP was looking for a tablet other than besides the obvious?

I agree that Apple is overpriced, but if you get your hands on an iPad they're good. I'd never pay for one, but my mom won it at work and she gave it to me. It works really well, not worth the price though. But if you are able to win one in a contest or something don't throw it away immediately, try it out first cause it's nice.
I also like the Nexus 7, I don't own one but I've played around with it a lot at stores and stuff. It's awesome for reading and games, which are the two things I do most on tablets.
