View Full Version : Moods on hormonal contraception?

I've been on the progesterone only pill for 6 months now. My moods altered slightly I suppose, more to do with irritability than anything, but nothing drastic.

5 days ago I had the progesterone implant fitted. I've been told to carry on the pill for the next month or so to try and get my periods to settle down.

The last day or two i've been feeling really generally down. There is no reason why I should be really. I've been really tearful and the slightest thing has made me want to cry. I don't know whether this is the implant or whether i'm just feeling down.

Is this going to stop or not? The Progesterone pill gave me periods every week and bad period pains, and i'm not allowed on contraception with oestrogen because I have a heart problem and because oestrogen is linked to depression, and with two suicide attempts they're not keen to give me that.

So as well, if this does carry on, i'm running out of options aren't I? :/

As long as estrogen is not an option due to your heart condition ... i guess you have to stick with the progesterone, which well known to bring depression :(

Apparently oestrogen is more likely to bring on depression.
