For all the Christian's on this site, and others.

I am a Christian, raised in a good family. I've always been taught to not have sex before marriage becauae you just don't. The Bible never talks about what marriage, like what defines it. There are places in the Bible where man and woman start sleep together yet no wedding or anything of the sort.

I am a virgin. I do not want to just go out and get laid but if you have feelings strong enough for someone, having sex before you get "marriad" is it that bad? I feel that also as a 17 year old male sex is always going through minds, but taking it farther, to a physical level. And what if I don't have intercourse, just have oral and explore. Is that still breaking the rules?

If it matters at all I'm straight and not experinced in anything.

The bible specifically talks about marriage in many verses. According to the bible, any sexual act before marriage is a sin, whether its anal, oral, sex, etc. Oral sex is a sexual act, so according to "The Holy Bible" it is a sin. For me personally, if you truly love the person, make that moment unforgettable, of course make sure you both are safe (condoms, spermicide, etc), and also, I would make that one moment I lost my virginity, very VERY special. I wouldnt just think of it as 'a quickie", but I would think of it as my first person I lost my virginity to. Your probably going to remember your first time the rest of your life, so why not make it special?
Edit:
Also, never, ever, have sex from peer pressure. Because I know of a few people whove had sex when they werent ready, and they regret that day. Only do it when your ready.

Well this would be determined by whether or not you have the same beliefs that your parents do.
Do you believe in God? Do you believe it is wrong to have sex before marriage? What are your morals?

In the bible it says numerous times that the body is 'sacred'. Therefore it should on be revealed once the 'holy matrimony' - or getting married. You mention that people throughout stories in the bible have intercourse before marriage, that's a good point.

The reason being for this is because the ceremony of being married was established by the church, and during this time period the church was still being developed. So there really wasn't any kind of official ceremony to determine whether one was married or not.

Any sexual favor before marriage would be considered a violation of the bible. Now this is only true if you yourself believe in this. Personally, i do not. I don't have a faith. You need to determine where your own religious beliefs are first, regardless of what your parents have taught you. Then you can choose what is morally acceptable before marriage. :)

Well actually, the bible doesnt try to make its people seem perfect. Paul murdered thousands of jews before he repented and became a Christian. King David had sex with a married women, then had her husband killed in war. For me, I believe it makes the bible seem more legit, because to many religions make its followers or disciples seem perfect, whereas the bible does not. There was actually a form of holy marriage during that day, it was typically done by the priests. The catholic church wasnt established till a while after that, but just cause the catholic church didnt exist, doesnt mean there wasnt a form of marriage or ceremony celebrating marriage.

Yes, however many stories coming from the bible are during the period in which the church was being developed. The beliefs of previous religions don't necessarily follow the same guide lines as the ones that were supposedly taught by jesus. According to the bible sex before marriage is wrong, according to ancient civilizations that's not really true. So it didn't matter if they had intercourse pre-marriage or post marriage.

Also i wasn't saying anyone in from the bible is perfect- far from it actually. Whether or not that actually makes the bible more believable, well.. that's for a different thread.

The Catholic church means nothing during that time. There was marriage, because during Jesus' time, the bible was written and in the process of it, in the old testament it says many verses about marriage. before Jesus, the way the jews went to heaven (according to christianity) was believing that Jesus would come one day (or the son of God, they didnt know the name). Then after Jesus was born (only in christianity) people got into heaven by believing that he had existed and was the son of God. back in the day, marriage was probably seen as something special, but not of much importance, cause marriage has always been around.

Correct. The op isn't asking about ancient marriage ceremony's and there traditions though, he's asking about marriage according to the bible. So i'm not entirely sure what you're trying to get at?

No, that's not what i said at all..

I'm saying sex before marriage wasn't bad in their time because there was no rule against it, the church was only just being formed and those commandments were just starting to come into play.

Having sex before marriage now is a sin to the bible. Any form of sexual favor at all.

Having sex before jesus/at the beginning of his time was not bad, because there had been no rule against it previously.

I don't believe any of that.

There's a summary of my first post.

it was a sin before Christ, because the bible was still around before him. it was written 400+ years before he came. and it was still saying any sexual favor was a sin.

It never crossed my mind as too not having the se beliefs as them.

Can you look at masturbation as a sin then? Even though you are alone.

it's not bad if you don't believe the Bible's the "Word of God" or follow a lot of things in it. just because the Bible says it's bad, doesn't mean it is.

whatever you believe, believe.

Oh, this is interesting.

The Church says that having sex before marriage is a sin, so is masturbation. Christianity teaches people to abstain from their sexual desires because to them, the act of sex itself is sacred, and it's meant for procreation. It should also only be done after marriage. And this sacred act is for God. Ok, I'm a Roman Catholic, but I find it really weird to think about doing it, and thinking that what I'm doing is for God. ....just imagine how awkward that is. Anyways, so yeah. The Church teaches that Christians should practice abstinence.

And I agree with Phenomenon. Judging whether or not sex is a sin depends on your morals.

May_star, is it against your beliefs and morals being Roman Catholic to have premarital sex and/or masturbate?

Yessir. It's frowned upon. But it's the act that's immoral, not the person since apparently we believe that all people are innately good. You can sense that I'm unsure of where I stand as of the moment. xD

I believe u must be at least 16 before you do anything. Marriage isn't really the marker, I believe it can happen before marriage

Kids today are going to have sex before marriage. Straight, gay, it doesn't matter. We have needs and some of us just don't want to wait until we are in our 20's.

I believe in God, but I don't consider myself a hard core Christian. I really don't think God is judging me for having sex before marriage, especially since it's gay sex. Getting married might not be an option for me, so I just have to do what comes naturally. :)

Who gives a crap, just go have sex! I'm a catholic but I think that that is stupid because part of a strong relationship is being compatable in bed....not all of a relationship...but some!
