View Full Version : Any advice for embracing your own sexuality?

Hi,

I've recently come to terms with the fact that I am definitely not 100% straight. Luckily, I had a brave, female friend who sprung the fact on me that she was lesbian, allowing me to safely admit to her that I have feeling for men as well as women. In this sense, I'm lucky enough to have one person fully "know" me.

In the long run, however, I'm still really confused. I don't know if I'm completely gay or straight, etc. I know many people claim that there should be no worrying about "labeling" myself at such a young age, but I personally feel that I will be unable to tell more people about my sexuality until I am certain of it myself, you know?

Is there any advice anyone can give about embracing your own sexuality? Even more so, how do I go about exploring this newly discovered sexuality. I know its against forum policy to give specific instructions for such a question, but I'm just looking for general advice.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Alex

Also, I have a general question to any other bi-sexuals out there. When you're checking people out, do you find that you notice yourself checking the same or opposite sex more often? I feel that I look at men more than I do at women, but maybe I'm just noticing myself notice men more often because it's against the "social norm". Any thoughts?

I'm 18, by the way.

Alex,
Im bi too. the way i handle it is by joking about it. not that its funny just that one of my friends who is a brother to me is also bi and he and i make jokes back and forth.

and as for checking people out
i dont notice a difference
i feel i do it equally and if i see a cute guy ill say it and same with a girl

btw im 17

Thanks for the response. I guess that's one method, but I don't think I'm at that point yet.

Also, it's not that I don't check out girls at all, it's just the retrospective mental processing of checking people out always leads me to believe that I only focus on men when I don't think that's true.

Embracing it I can't think really.

However, with regards to checking out both genders I say I check out women more, just because I don't often see good looking guy's.
Although I would say I am equally attracted, maybe less so this week than usual but :P who cares

Honestly? Just experiment. Best way to find out AND you'll have fun whilst 'figuring' out who you are. That's what I did anyway and I figured out that I was a lesbian (thanks to my ex, ex-best friend and current girlfriend).

At the end of the day you don't have to label yourself, as cliche as that sounds, but as long as you are comfortable with who you are it doesn't matter what sex you are attracted to. If you find the right person, gender really doesn't matter.

You don't have to tell anyone. Until you are ready.

Hope this helps :)
