Well almost everyone I know that straightens or has straightened their hair before now has ugly, burned hair. I straightened my hair for about a month and I completely regretted it, I'd rather have slightly wavy, healthy hair than straighten it ever again. But that's just from my experience everyone has different hair.

If you get a heat protective serum, and condition your hair it's fine to straighten it. It'll take a while before you hair actually stays straight though.

I straighten my hair everyday (though I don't have curly hair) x] I can guarantee you that you won't be disappointed.
I burned my hair over time (I have very dark brown hair, almost black, so it doesn't stand out really much) but I really don't mind it, I actually like it a little bit...

I straighten my hair a lot because its so curly. If you straighten your hair, its only just for a a day or so. To protect your hair from getting screwed up, use a good heat protectant before you straighten your hair. Also use a good conditioner too. That should keep your hair from getting damaged.

Haha, I need to find a friend with a hair straightener and give it a shot. :P That or grow it out long enough...

I've got curly hair. 3b-3c hair type.
I used to straighten my hair once a week, with how my hair and scalp are I can go up to two weeks without washing my hair. Washing it more than twice a week is actually unhealthy for my hair and makes it fall out and dries it out like crazy.

Depending on your oil and sebum production, and washing routine, you do not and should not straighten your hair every day. Maybe every other day or unless you really need to. Don't need to damage it when it can be avoided.
Definitely, definitely use a heat protection serum and heat protection spray combo. I'm still growing out my burnt/damaged hair, it's terribly ugly and scraggly so I hide it in my curls. Make sure to brush your hair more when it's straightened to keep the roots and scalp stimulated. This strengthens the hair follicles and helps the scalp produce a healthy amount of oils, brushing also helps to get the oils to the ends of the hair where it's most needed. Since the hair pattern's been altered by the straightener, you need those oils to sort of help your hair stay strong and not weaken from being shifted out of its natural pattern.

I dunno, I have really curly hair and straighten it everyday and it just gets curlier when I let it dry naturally. But I take really good care of my hair so no amount of straightening/dying has ever actually damaged it.

Yeah straightening should work. I have kinda curly hair and went through a phase of straightening my hair every day but then realised it didn't suit me. So now I just straighten my fringe and straighten the curls out into waves.

How effective straightening will be will depend on how you do and the straighteners you use. I love my ghds they're really good. And before you straighten your hair look up a quick guide online.

And as most people have said put something on your hair like heat spray.

It will help, but you will have to do it every morning, and after every bath :)

I straighten mine, but when you first start it just looks wrong, it takes a couple weeks for your hair to accept it.

Staightening your hair is okay as long as you use conditioners and some kind of protection. If your hair is exposed to high temperatures too often, it can go bad! herinterest.com/7-ways-to-keep-hair-straight/ Sorry for a girly site but you've got some useful tips there.
