I got a burn on my arm yesterday. It didn't really hurt, but it looked really funny. The skin was blistered a little bit, but since it didn't hurt, I put some ice on it and went on my way. Today the burn is kind of purple and it is swollen. It's hurting really bad. Does anyone know what I should do?

The brushing is common with a second degree burn. In the training room, we would clean it, use a zinc oxide cream or a triple antibiotic product to help prevent infection. Keep it clean and covered with bandages. Drink plenty of water, the it is very common for a burn victom to become dehydrate. If conditions worsen, I would see your local urgent care center.

Putting Ice on the burn was the worst thing you could have done, and sorry to say could have made it a whole lot worse. Burns need running water and nothing else (waterburn emergency dressings excluded. I would see a doctor, 1. because of the colour you are describing, and 2. the probability of infections as it is blistered.

I second this. Ice is a pretty bad idea for a burn (for future reference, this is because it's possible to give yourself frostnip on top of a burn, which leads to all sorts of complications as you can imagine.) Get that thing to a doctor, it's likely to be infected.

Ice is a bad idea, because you want to feel the pain of the burn, just so you know it didn't permanently damage your skin cells. But you should drink water and try putting aloe Vera on it and keep it clean! If puss or anything like that shows up go to the doctor.
