Well what is the saddest song you have heard of and why?
I personally think Cats in the Cradle because it reminds me of my Father.

It's a complicate feeling...it reminds me that I never had/have a saviour, a shoulder to cry and that I was, am and will be alone in a mean world. It's also a thing that I am proud about, I am proud because I am a fighter, a winner and I will continue like that.

Too many to list, so I'll list those at the top of my head.
Johnny Cash - Hurt (better than the original, imo), I Hung My Head, Help Me, The Beast in Me, I See a Darkness
Blue October - Help Me
Alice in Chains - Nutshell
Radiohead - Creep
Hollywood Undead - Bullet (sounds happy, depressing lyrics)
I can't think of anymore, but I have dozens more on my phone. :3
Mortal Coil

Alice in Chains - Nutshell
That one is really depressing.
Probably the saddest one I've ever heard was Hello by Evanescence. Don't knock it before you hear it, it's quite different to their other stuff.
There are also some pretty good suggestions in this thread. (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=128112)

Concrete Angel by Martina McBride is really sad, in my opinion. Also, the song Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk by Rufus Wainwright always makes me cry, but that's more due to a personal experience. Oh, and You Are My Sunshine by Anne Murray makes me teary because my mom always used to sing it to me, and one of my first dolls, when wound up, would play the melody.

The pure emotion in Trenzor's voice is insane. I can't help but feel somewhat sad listening to it. It's musical genius right here. I know for a fact, Treznor states this is his most emotional song he ever wrote.
Other sad songs:
I Gave You All - Mumford & Sons
Cancer - My Chemical Romance
Roadside - Rise Against
There are more, but I can't think of them to type right now.

Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIF4_Sm-rgQ)
This song has been covered to no end, but I especially like this version. I don't know if it's the absolute most sad song I've ever heard though; it's just the first thing that came to mind.

Ronan by Taylor Swift comes straight to my mind when I'm asked this question. Also Hurt by Christina Aguilera, Because Of You by Kelly Clarkson (my favourite song ever) and My Immortal by Evanescence.
