Anyone here want to be a physiotherapist? I'm thinking I might, it seems pretty cool but I've not any experience other than like coaches helping with cramps and stuff. Anyone had much experience with it from injuries and whether the physio actually helped you? Any bad things about getting physio?

My friend wants to be a physiotherapist, I think it's a pretty good job but you have to good at and enjoy science really.
I've been to 2 physios as well as a load of other professionals. One private, one on the NHS. It helped temporarily but after a while the pain just came back. The stretches they give improve things but that's if you do them. Bad things about it is that it hurts, lol. It's just annoying to have to go and when things aren't improving you just see no point. But that's just me. Hope that was the kind of thing you were looking for.

That's interesting thanks. I think a lot of times they seem to make people do physio first, then if it doesn't get better they operate, which seems 'a bit crap' if you are hurting or disabled for months in the meantime.

Yeah I rock biology so that looks as though it should work with mine (I didn't drop PE this year cos it didn't seem huge work so fingers crossed I can manage 4 and keep my options open). I really hope they don't want physics or chem as I sucked at those lol.

Oh tell me about it. They gave me about 6 months physio and next time, If things aren't better when I go back they're going to send me to the consultant to see if I need an operation. What bullshit -.-

Well Bio is all you really need. I'm not certain on the criteria they look for but I think triple science is preferred. To be honest I don't see the point since you won't be mixing chemicals and shit but oh well. You're in England so it probably relates to you. What are you taking for A levels?

Doing IT, PE, Bio, English (might drop the english that was just for fun cos i thought i might want tobe a writer then realised it wasnt an actual job lol).

I was looking at the nhs site it just says one bio related science (I think thats including pe OR biology). also seems people get in with bio, history, pe and things like that so should be ok.

I can see why nutrition & chemistry could link, and physics and all sorts of stuff around biomechanics and eg prosthetics etc. But I think thats why it isn't required is because you can do that sort of specific learning along with the degree maybe. I'm interested in nutrition but don't think i want to get that deep so hopefully can avoid too much scariness.

At least in the UK, there's too much competition. My sister was considering it but she didn't because everyone wants to be one :P

My dad's had it, it didn't help him at all but my Aunt also had it and said as long as she stuck at it she did see improvement.

As for uni, I have one friend applying and one friend using it as a back up to medicine. As far as I've seen you won't find offers below BBB/ucas tariff 300. Most specify biology a few will exchange that for pe and most of the Russell group want ABB minimum. And I think you need to realise physiotherapy is a highly competitive course work experience would probably really help you out so see if you can get some in.

OK thanks Connor & Louise ... very helpful. The grades shouldn't be a problem in theory (famous last words), but I think I'll have a think around it and see if there are related things. Plan A was to do IT but over the summer I decided really fancy a career away from suits and offices and terribly serious meetings if you know what I mean.
