Recently got a smartphone and found this kinda cool thing with Bluetooth. Something called NFC where you tap your phone with another phone to send things instantly... so I wondered if it would be cool if restaurants could have pads where you tap it with your phone and you can see their menu or shops where you tap it and you see there latest offers or randomly placed pads which could be placed in town which you tap and see latest adverts or a joke a day pad which you receive a random joke. Who thinks it could be a cool idea? :)

It's been there for sometime. It's called Android Beam, and it uses NFC (Near field communication) to send data. You have to be near the host to receive data through Android Beam. Here's some more information about it:

Hmmm.... I used it, but only once with my cousin, since he's the only one with NFC that i know...but yeah not a bad idea at all, just not applicable now i think, maybe when most people have phones with NFC technology...

There's another somewhat similar thing for iOS devices called bump. It works off of location/GPs though. You tap two phones together and the bump servers check if the two phones bumped in the same general area and if yes a transfer is completed. You can also do it with your computer at the website bu.mp provided your browser supports location services.

Bump is also an android app too :)

Yeah it's not all that new...and it does nit use Bluetooth it uses it's own chip that is likely installed in the battery. And I use it sometimes with Google wallet. It works quite well.
