Today in health class we were watching a video about risky behavior. It was pretty good until they started talking about cutting :( it got to me. It's not that it triggered me but it's just what they said about it really pissed me off. They were saying that people cut so that they can feel different, don't get me wrong, people cut for different reasons and it's possible that someone cuts because of that but to say that people cut just so they can be different is messed up. I started cutting because of all the shit that was going on at the time and I couldn't control anything, except for cutting. The video also had an interview of a mom whose daughter use to cut. She said that her daughter just doesn't understand that life is a good thing, that it is a gift. I guess she is right but in a sense, the mom doesn't understand. Life isn't always good, life can be a bad thing.
I guess this is all debatable but it just really upset me, so I just wanted to get it out of my head and write it down.

I see why you're upset. My father says that I play violent videogames 'cause I'm violent. 'cause I'm gonna be a 'shooter' when I grow up. Not true! I just wish some people could stop being so ignorant!
At least they could have decency to believe in us... Instaid of saying 'You're a lost cause.' or ' You're a Plague in society.' And then they say it's the truth.

That video is full of what people want to think the world is. People want to think there is an explainable reason for everything that happens, they want to think that cutting is just for attention, they want to think that life is always good. Mostly because, well, it's easier to think that way. It's easier to not bother with people who cut, or anything like that.
But, of course, that doesn't mean it is the right way to think. Don't let the video get to you anymore. Most of the people who have never cut can never truly understand it anyway, and the majority of those, won't try to.
We're always here though, of course. :)

That they said that shows they know very little about what drives someone to cut. Yes, some people might do that, but no one I know does. For a lot of people I know it comes out of self hatred, or a way to cope with their emotions or feelings because they can't find any other way that works. That's what it's been for me.. It's somewhat of an insensitive view on a touchy subject that they presented, in my opinion, and I definitely understand your frustration with them.
