I've looked around the music part on here and noticed a lot of people listen to metal rock etc but I've also seen some people frown on this in the pop genere. Why do you dislike some of the people in the pop music business. If you like pop can you explain why you do?

Meh, I don't like hating on pop music. I personally love pop, when I'm in the mood for it. It's fun.

You seem to have two questions, so I'll try to answer both.

#Q1: I dislike some of the people in the pop business because of the nature of pop business. For this example I will take Justin Beiber. ==I'm not going to say anything on the subject of him outside of what I really feel.== Justin Beiber's music seems to be targeted to the masses. By this I don't mean how or to whom it's marketed, I mean that it's targeted to groups who are groups because they like his music.

There are people who will say they like his music simply so that they can fit in, and in this era of adolescent society, sticking out is a death sentence, as I'm sure you know. Those who can stand up for themselves, who will tell anyone that asks that, no, they don't like his music, suffer the cold shoulder or the negative attention of those groups who are groups because they say they like his music.

That is why I dislike many of the widely-known pop artists.

#Q2: I do like some pop music because it is good. There are reasons it is popular. Sometimes it's because people want to fit in, and sometimes it's because it's actually good music.

I dislike the majority of the people in the pop music industry because it's simply not respectable music to me. I respect it in that many people consider it music and to be "good" (as music is subjective), but I don't respect it because it never challenges the listener. Having music dumbed down to the lowest common denominator, in my eyes, is a bastardization of what music can really be. Pop stands far from challenging a listener's thoughts and emotions because it relates to the listeners and doesn't offer any other point of view.

Bieber is hardly a good enough representative for pop music. The other problem with pop music is that people listen to SINGLE songs, not entire albums. This is why I don't like the majority of pop artists: they release an album and only one or two are worthy of being listened to.

Trust me bieber is in no way a represintive of pop music some people would be Rihanna Bruno mars Cher Lloyd. Cher is just cute and makes good songs and she is so loveable.

For me it's the songs. i just don't like the style and the sound of it but also the lyrics, because they are usually about the same subject such as love and stuff like that. That's just me so hate all you want.

Awesome fuckin point man. I don't mean to hate but I just can't stand pop/hip hop or any of that shit. In my opininon people like Justin Beiber are famous for their looks, not their music. I don't like pop because of the electro shit they use, that's not talent, that's technology helping the singers who can't sing. I like how the bands in Rock and Metal don't need that electro shit to be talented, all they need is their instruments.

Implying that electronic influence in music and electronic genres aren't real music.

No, I'm saying that you're implying anything electronic isn't music and that electronic genres aren't music simply because they don't use instruments.

I dont like pop because it has no meaning to me. most old music (60s-80s) has meaning for me. most new music doesnt.

I'm not a pop music hater, but I'm not a pop music lover either. My qualifications for "good music" are rather vast, so I like a lot of stuff. Some pop music I like (focusing mainly on mainstream dance-pop and hip hop, not subgenres like indie pop, pop punk, pop rock, etc.) is Good Feeling by Flo-Rida, Just a Dream by Nelly, and E.T. by Katy Perry. I like those songs because they're catchy and have good beats (danceable). I'll admit, however, that compared with other songs--say, Crowquill by Circle Takes the Square--the lyrics are pretty shallow and the structure is not very complex. Pop music as a whole is a dumbed-down version of complex esoteric music. It's music for the masses. In this generation, people are really simple-minded, so they want simple music.

Exactly. Damn you're fucking smart lol.

No matter what kind of music you like, you can't say that any genre of music ISN'T music. For example, I personally can't stand speedcore, which is basically really really really fast techno music. I think it's obnoxious and rather pointless, but I'm not going to say it's not music. I do agree that playing instruments takes more effort than making electronic music does, but the amount of effort required doesn't make it any better, and certainly doesn't mean it's music but electronic stuff isn't.

Because there is no message in the song, no feelings... per example:

Learn From This Mistake - Down (explicit message and feelings)

I've come so close, it's almost hard to believe
When you're up close, it blinds you brilliantly
Just one rush can change your life forever
Just one push can end it all together

Why can't we learn from the plague that surrounds us
Learn from my mistakes
Learn from this mistake
Learn from our mistake
Learn from their mistakes

Stupid Hoe - Nicki Minaj (nothing)

Look Bubbles, go back to ya habitat
MJ gone and I ain't havin that
How you gonna be the stunt double to the nigga monkey?
Top of that I'm in the Phanton lookin hella chunky

Ice my wrist-es then I piss on bitches
You could suck my diznick, if you take this jizz-is,
You don't like them disses, give my ass some kisses
Yeah they know what this is givin this some business

Well, pop was okay back in decades past (early nineties and before,) but I don't like it because now people are in it more for the paycheck than anything else. Which means they want to make as much money as possible, so the songs are all formulaic based on what audiences have been shown to like. The result is that the songs sound the same. They don't have any passion or real emotion behind them. It's... bland to me.

But personally I find pop generic, boring and repetitive. With metal it's fresh each time you listen to it. But that's just my 2 cents.

I'm a bit neutral. I don't hate pop. I just dislike this BLURT BLURT BLUT in the background of some tracks and prefer harmonic tunes...

Also the over use of swearing and the negative impact it has on kids. Bad.

It was the same thing before the 90s. Most pop music, since it's been CALLED pop music, is almost consistently bland. There's no difference between a pop song from the 80s and a pop song from the 90s. It's still shallow, still bland, and nothing new to report on.

HA. HAHA. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. What the fuck did I just read? Lyrics aren't essential to music and there are tons of artists who not only do instrumental songs, but instrumental albums. Some ONLY do instrumental albums. Why? Because lyrics aren't necessary. If you really want /lyrics/ but good music too, listen to Sigur Ros. They use lyrics, sort of. Sure the lyrics are in a made up language, but that's to prove that while vocals may increase the emotions, lyrics don't need to be there.

This music isn't contamitated by anything that ruins it, Its beautiful music.

People ask me why I listen to J-music and Vocaloid music, this is the reason.True Audiophiles listen to every part of the music and take in more that the lyrics. 40% of the music I listen to is not in English and it moves me just the same. Best example would be hearing Miku's Love is War and then hearing Linkin Park's Breaking the Habit. The two songs are almost the same. I weep for the people that can't understand music as a whole and just hear beat, lyrics and see (sexual) dancing.

I agree completely.

It's not so much the people as it is their music. Metal is often misconceived as being meaningless screamo, some of it can be, but not much. There is more meaning in most metal songs than in most pop songs. I also hate how pop songs are so repetitive. The only pop artist I like is Katy Perry, (Which people still get surprised at cause i'm such a metalhead :P), I would have to say the only 'artist' I don't like is Skrillex, because he takes his pointless noise and calls it music. Its not music, its what happens when a computer takes a shit. I also hate it when people dislike an artist because they're popular or mainstream, It shouldn't be about that. It should be about whether or not you like their music. Also, so many people hate mainstream music, that it's become mainstream. What are you going to do now?! :o
