I say English, because proper grammar is needed to write a good resume/do well in life, but most jobs require Applied Mathematics.

It was hard for me to pick, but in the end I chose math. The fact of the matter is the majority of the jobs in the world require at least a basic knowledge of math, and math is also the fundamental basis for all of science.

I have to say science for me, because I wanna become a marine biologist, so science is extremely important!

What? Nobody else voted for history? It's the one where we learn from others' mistakes! Where we gain insight into how humans will behave in certain situations as a response to different conditions! History is more practical than learning to write 2000-word essays about The Canterbury Tales or factorising quadratics.

Psychology. Obviously psychology. it promotes self-awareness, understanding (of us, others, our thoughts and actions), teaches how to problem solve peacefully, and is all-around fucking awesome.

I said math. You can't go anywhere in life without knowing math. What's going to happen when taxes start coming up and you have to pay bills.

I think English. It is very important to be able to communicate eloquently to people because often how you sound or how your grammar is is the first impression they get of you.

Other. Phys Ed. Because the Fed Gov passed a law during the Cold war that everyone must be ready for war...and everyone must be in shape. So everyone has to take four years of gym in high school.

Actually, in the U.S. it is only 1.5 years, because you get the full 1.5 credits.
And can you source that? I've never heard it before.

English my ass! When will we ever have to read a book and tell that the main character was suicidal and depressed all because the author stated that the curtains were blue? Never.....when will we need to understand that a word is a direct object or part of and adjectival phrase? Never, when will we have to read a book then decipher it and right complex papers about them....only in school? I know that none of this will ever come in handy and it sucks and it is quite pointless. Is it to help us read? I can read freakin pretty damn well not because of English but because I read a lot growing up! And as for public speaking, well I'm never gonna do that and most people won't either, and if the audience can't tell what is "proper grammar" then who cares, that's just my view.
On the other hand math is everywhere, like it or not! And algebra and trig and stuff will help expand your capacity to solve complex problems, and I don't mean like math problems but real life problems too! It's not as important but it does help more than English! Screw you English!

English as good English skills are needed in every other subject with the exception of Maths. Without good English you don't stand much of a chance of getting a job or going to university in my opinion.

I said other. You at least need basic English and maths but really how can you choose the most important subject you need a little but of everything to get along in life. English to read, maths to handle your finances, a but of science/history/geography to understand references in social situations.

I would say English is more important in younger grades, when you learn reading and other essential skills. Later on, it get less useful. No one really need to read books and identify every metaphor. The analysis of literature is completely pointless.
I think science is the most important in later grades. It is literally everywhere and so many people in today's society lack basic science skills.

I think it depends on the grade level... like some years you learn important stuff and other times you don't learn schist.

Math.....which I'm currently failing at.

I'm tied between 3.
Math Its an everyday use. Very important to know because most jobs need math. You need math to do taxes, shopping, eating out, and much more.
Science This is important as well because it teaches about space, physics, motion, where we came from(arguably), the ecosystems around us, and much more as well.
JROTC JROTC is a very important class too. It offers, leadership education, some sort of science(AFJROTC is aerospace science),self-discipline, self-confidence, teamwork/team building, fitness, drill, cleanliness, integrity, and military image. It also can teach other stuff, but I have only been in AFJROTC. There is many types of it. AFJROTC, AJROTC, MCJROTC,NJROTC. They all teach pretty much the same thing except for the science. They are all different. I believe NJROTC teaches naval science? I'm not sure though. I almost forgot, after being in AFJROTC for at least 3 years, you become and E-3 once you enlist in any branch of the military at anytime. E-3=a higher pay and a higher rank so I say its worth it.

History is the most important, it truly shows how intelligent and aware you are in the world, it helps future leaders learn from past mistakes or successes.

I think its History because it teaches you to think big, remember facts, make opinions based on stuff you learn and like write essays and short answers.

I love History! But in my opinion subjects such as Math and English take priority over it. Being able to understand basics in Math and also being able to read and write properly are very important.

I think that a skills class like computer apps. or a shop class is the best, but if those don't apply then math because I have had to use it in every job I've had so far.

English, crucial worldwide. English is probably one of the most spoken languages in the world right now and is such an essential for people living in English countries to be able to understand the language properly.
Maths would come second but honestly, half of the crap you learn during Maths aren't even used in real life and aren't necessary. If you know most of the basics of Maths then you're set.

I voted other because I can't pick one.
Okay lets think about it.
English and Math are both essential subjects. I myself find English and Math in everyday use.
Lets try, Modern Studies, Geography and History are all important but more of an interest subject rather than an essential subject. As well as science.
So English and Math are very much needed and a basic understanding of science wouldn't hurt either.
I think it depends on what you intend to use the most in later life and what is going to benefit you in further education.

Well, English isn't a bad subject to an extent, considering you need grammar and such. Although, when English turns into a class where it's all about projects; making cute masks and shoe boxes and what the hell not is just completely pointless. If I want to do Arts & Craft, I can do it on my spare time. Besides that, Math & Science are essential, Math more than Science considering you do not need Science for every career, but practically every good-paying career requires a decent level of Mathematics; which would range at about Algebra II. History & Geography...you don't need a god damn teacher for this, if you can read you'll be perfectly fine. There aren't that many 'complex' parts in History/Geography which would get you confused to the point where you'd need a full time teacher to help you with it...
So most important for me would be: English for grammar, Math for every other career, and Science for the careers that require it.

Even tho we learn from others (and our own) mistakes, we still repeat them. Plus, the past is the past, let's leave it there. That way we might not make those same mistakes again. So I really disagree. History is one class I DON'T think we need at all.
On the other hand I voted for english because you need to be able to read and write to go anywhere in this world.

English and Math are really used everywhere, but I personally chose science, because of the job field that I would like to work in. But it really depends on what you would like to do as a job.

I voted other. My other is theatre. I say this because in the career that i want to pursue which is Musical Theatre im not going to math such as tri or cal to help me learn my lines, music and choreography... I am going to need the theatrical training i got taught to me.

I'd say it's a tie between Math and English.
I can't pick one over the other, as they are botg VERY important subjects to learn.

Remember learning about pharaohs, Egypt, the continents, USA map, christopher columbus, capitals, and friggin biomes?

No academics are important in high-school. It's just a meter for what college you get into. It's to teach you how to learn.

English, because in the UK, you need at least a C in English Language if you want to take most A-levels or go into university, but maths and sciences are also important. After that it depends what you want to do...
