Hey everyone! So yesterday my mom and I were talking about prejudice! She told me that now most people abuse this term so they can get what they want. Like she said that now colleges have to enter so many African Americans, Whites, Hispanics, ect. And if they don't, then they aren't a good inter mix college. Or simply people use the term now these days, "Because I'm (fill in the blank.) But lately I've been noticing more prejudice in the teen area these days! Especially whom you hang out with! It's either people judge you, or they give you and your friend a hard time because one of my might be either a different religion, orientation, ect. and the other is the opposite. So debate is, two questions!! Do you think now a days people use prejudice as an excuse or a way to get their own way, or are they actually really offended? And second which group uses more prejudice: Adults or Teens?

I think it's mainly used as an excuse these days.
In another thread about racism, I said they're holding onto the dark ages of segregation. Other races are perfectly aware that there was an era of "white supremacy" and they won't let that go. Ever. They hold onto it to use it, if they get upset others will probably see it as justified thanks to the past. The "whites" and other races in hopes of changing that are practicing some type of quota here as you've said, where they must except so many people of this race, this religion, this sexual orientation if it's listed, and this gender. Think Token.
The radical feminists will never let the world forget that there was once "male dominance and supremacy" and will forever play the gender card when they can.
The oppressed religions, they're much more calm since it's pretty difficult to play the faith card, but they too throw it down when they can.
Rarely when those cards are put in play are there actual prejudices taking place. The people who're actually offended usually hold their tongue, they and the person offending them are fully aware of what's happening and what's going on. There's no need to say it, they take action if they want, but they don't scream like a banshee "I'm being oppressed!" Walk softly but carry a big stick.
The second part. Adults.
In my area, the older generations are the most prejudiced. When I'm with my mom and sister, people assume my mom's watching us because she's black. They don't even stop to think we're mixed race, they look at my blue eyed pale skinned blonde haired sister and write us off as "the help". And this isn't even a rich area I live in. My parents hate the gays, "they go against god" crap. I was watching Fashion RunWay and my dad took the remote from me and turned off the TV when a feminine man was speaking, "forbidding me from watching sin" lol what? I swear they'd block Logo if it didn't play their favorite show. And just walking near my mall you'll see a ton of 40 something adults muttering about kids these day and those nasty tattoos and their devil piercings. Anyone that doesn't fit their idea of perfect, they'd prefer be dead.

I think prejudice is offensive and is often a form of manipulation however, it is more often an actual offensive behavior.
Secondly, teens use prejudice more but I believe it is not a real prejudice most of the time. Teens abuse this behavior to fit in or to act cool, when in all truth it is not. Real prejudice is found more in adults. Though prejudice is abused mostly by teens they do not actually believe in it, while adults really do.

Where I live, it's very common. In fact, someone I know said "The good thing about our school is that there's mostly whites. If theirs to many races in one school it just ruins the school and makes it seem ghetto." I was extremely shocked when they said this, because theirs another high school and it has many races in it. Honestly, I think racism is still around, but is slowly fizzling out. We didn't live to far from the racist era, even in the 1970s people were pretty racist. My dad said you could use so many racist terms during his childhood and it wasn't even considered bad.
But I believe racism toward many ethnicitys will disappear with our generation, or in about 30-50 years.
