Ok so last night my computer was working all fine and good and then BLOOP it started fucking up. I went to hit the restart button but it kept freezing and wouldn't let me restart (wouldn't let me click, it was frozen) so after a minute I got impatient and just hit the button to shut it down. Then when I went to turn it on it displayed the logo, and I left it for five minutes and STILL nothing. So I turned it on and off and it said it'd try to diagnose and fix the problems... so I let it do that. It said it did but when it turned back on it did the same thing. So I did a restart thing where it would go back to a time where everything was working okay, and even THAT wouldn't work! It's trying to diagnose the problem for the third or fourth time. The second time I tried it said it couldn't fix it.

Anyone know what's wrong/ how to fix the issue? My aunt's gonna try to see what she can do when she gets home but yea...

If restoring to a previous retore point didn't work sounds like either several system files became corrupted (likely at fault some sort of malicious software), or the hard drive might have some defective sectors.

The former? Formatting should bring it back up and running.
The latter? Formatting might bring it back up and running, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the HDD.

If it is a Windows Xp/Vista/7 install, the first thing would be to boot using the installation disk and use it to fix your installation. You have a good description of the steps to follow for Windows Xp here. (http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm)

The hardware is not necessarily at fault, but I cannot really tell with the informations provided. Two good pointers for hardware testing: Smartmontools (http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/smartmontools/wiki) will help you diagnose your hard disks; Memtest86+ (http://www.memtest.org/) will check for bad RAM.
