I picked Metallica, because i like thrash more than grunge.

I wouldn't say Nirvana innovated the grunge genre. That title goes to The Pixies, Sonic Youth, and plenty of others. I vote Metallica on this one since they were much more consistent with their output.

Heh, this is the toughest one so far. Metallica had an amazing five-album run, but they've gotten consistently worse since the early 90s. Some of their new stuff is just pitiful, in my opinion. It's pretty weird how a band that consistently churned out album after album of great music could just fall of like that, but then again, with the egos of Metallica's band members it was an accident waiting to happen.

I voted for Nirvana in the poll but I kind of regret that now. Didn't really think it over that much. Nirvana has also created a lot of music that I enjoy, but their catalog isn't really as varied as Metallica's. Can't really make my mind up on this one.

Hardest one yet, love them both for different reasons. I give the nod to Nirvana just. As i have been big on Nirvana a lot longer than Metallica, and as Metallica have started to drop a bit with their output. Great thread man, really like the concept. Keep it up man, they are getting better and better.

Oh fuck this is a hard question, these are my 2 favorite bands. I suppose i'll go with Metallica. Nirvana used to be my favorite band and I used to listen to them a lot, i've just lost interest in them over time. I just like how it seems like every song I hear from Nirvana and Metallica I like. It seems like they don't have a single bad song. I'll give the slight edge to Metallica since they have been around for 30 years and still make good music. It would interesting though to see how Nirvana would've done if Kurt Cobain didn't blow his brains out ( or if Courtney Love killed him, whatever you think happened ) But yeah I give the very slight edge to Metallica.

You know who I chose ;) And Nirvana didnt start or make grunge huge... Nirvana contributed alot and make it more mainstream briefly with "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and the album "Nevermind" being both huge hits. But today grunge is gone underground! ;)

They had a five album run with Kill 'Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, ...And Justice for All, and the Black Album. Very impressive for a band in that period of time. Lulu was also more like a Lou Reed project.

Ill dispute this :P There would be a Nirvana if there was no Metallica, Kurt got his inspiration from punk bands and the Beatles at times... Mostly punk and some alternative bands, Metallica is metal I think. But Nirvana is a grunge band, a sub genre of alternative rock.

I agree on the fact that Lulu isn't great but i think Death magnetic and Beyond magnetic are pretty good.
