So I read somewhere that some scientists have predicted where the universe ends, like where it stops being space..... anyone else question this?? Personally I think there is something else out there that we as humans cant really comprehend, where our laws of physics don't apply. I also don't think the universe is unending in all directions, but don't expect me to back up that belief with a reasonable explanation. I was wondering what other people thought about space and what is actually going on out there

The Universe, according to some theories in one of many. So are Universe is big as it is small. Our Universe could be in a jar, or an atom on a lamp. Make us look small compared to space. To me this "new" scientific find is a crap. sorry for the language. But one can never know when space stops.

I don't contemplate it, because no matter what opinion I make, there will never be any proof, and I'll never know. I like the mystery and I wouldn't want to try solving it. Honestly, I just like to think that there's so much out there that we don't know, and that somehow, it's just endless. It's reassuring somehow, the literally infinite possibilities, and things that we can't even begin to fathom.

Yeah. As well, theres absolutely no proof. The cant have gone to the "end" for the spaceship has to travel slightly slower than the speed of light. Not possible with todays technology.

Your language is excused, I thought the exact same thing when I was shown the estimated size of the universe. I don't know what data they are basing this estimate on, if any. I think they are kind of just throwing out ideas at this point. "well we really have no clue about any of this stuff, so we are just gonna say its about this big."

Ahh but pushing your mind beyond its limits of understanding is so much fun! My friends and I always get into deep convos about this kinda stuff. Personaly I would love to discover some sort of scientific break through that explains the universe. Unfortunately our conversations will never begin with something other than "What if..".

I've recently decided that the universe may as well be a 'mirror to a mirror' type of thing. There's no stop, there's no start. But I don't much contemplate things like that, I'm here on earth and that's where I'll be staying.

I love these kinds of questions!:D
There are many theories and interpetations that suggest our universe is infinite, and some even suggests the existence of other universes. Now, some of them are only interpretations meaning virtually no evidence to back it up, but there are also those with solid, scientific proof behind it. I love reading about those theories, though. :P
To answer your question; The universe is finite in extent, but it isn't possible to get to the "edge" because it's constantly expanding more rapidly than we can travel. I like not knowing. I think some things are better to remain a mystery.

To answer your question: based off theories of that show the universe does have a limit. It is one of many universes, this concept is called a multi-verse. I can't think too good right now, as i am under the influence. I'll get back to you on this though, don't you worry.

Okay, so. Space, what is that shit?
Well space essentially is matter that is contained inside of another, "space". This space being called the universe. The universe harbors all of our galaxies, planets, stars, everything.
Now, outside of this universe is what physicist's like to call an 11-dimensional multiverse. So picture our universe, contained inside a spherical object, like a bubble. And that bubble is able to give 'birth' to other universes. These universes would be nothing like our own. The laws of psychics could be completely different, hell there could be no gravity.
If you really are interested in this stuff, look up Dr. Michio Kaku. He's a genius, i love listening to this guy talk about physics.

I love thinking about the end of the universe. It's a really hard thing to grasp even if there isn't such a thing as it, it's still fun to think about. I do think there is an end the universe though. The Big Bang started and expanded, after the first second of the universe's life. It was already millions of miles wide! But there was an end. I think the inverse is still expanding, so there is an end...but it's just not possible to see or witness because it's getting further and further away at nearly the speed of light. That's just what I think

I thought the Multi-verse theory was debunked? I love that theory (and Everett's Many Worlds), but I thought it was a metaphysical proposition, with not so much proof. I may be wrong, and I hope so.

I don't believe that this theory has been debunked, it actually seems quite realistic in my opinion. Well, compared to what scientists have been discovering lately. There isn't much proof to it, as its kind of hard to get an outside view of our universe. However its still very probable :)

Well I personally think that space repeats its self. Like of you go far enough, you will go back to where you began. I have zero evidence that backs up my theory.

It's the Toroidal model, actually. Scientist are collecting some evidence for it.

I agree. I really like this theory, and think it answers many questions scientists have been contemplating for years. Oh, and thanks so much. I've never heard of him before. Brian Greene and Carl Sagan are the two I usually enjoy hearing/reading their work.

I think that its completely fake. I don't think that the universe every ends, perhaps there is multiple universes, but I don't think that there is any end. So what will happen you be flying through space and then a sign comes up saying "dead end, 5 light years"? Or what is there a giant door that leads to the other side or another universe?

Yes, the decades of research conducted by numerous scientists and scientific labs is fake.
There is an end to the universe, the likely hood that we will ever surpass that end is very unlikely with our current technology.
Nope, no sign. Just instantaneous freezing and cellular disfigurement that would kill you the second you escaped our little bubble.

But if there is an end, then wouldn't there have to be something on the other side?

I like to think that our universe is just a small bubble, and outside of it are other small bubbles with their own universe inside, with completely different rules.

Yes, that's where the multiverse theory comes into play. An 11-dimensional space where the laws of physics do not apply, sort of like a black hole. Except you'd be outside our universe, not in a black hole. There are a lot of concepts to wrap your mind around when it comes to this stuff.

If you could find a good link describing that more in depth, I'd love if you'd post it. I'm not sure if I believe in the whole multi-verse thing, although, I don't have a very good understanding of it either.

Honestly I probably shouldn't have posted my post. I did it more for a joke. This topic really confuses me because I was always taught that the universe never ends. That the universe was so immense that your mind could not ever, ever understand it completely. Then I got introduced to the Omniverse?Or Multiverse whatever its called. It all starts to make sense. Universes are like bubbles. Bubbles constantly expand until they pop. Our Universe is to expanding. Galaxies are rushing away from us as I type this. The question whether it will pop or not is confusing. Another thing that is confusing is what happens if you do leave our universe. Do you somehow go to another universe or dimension? Do you just disintegrate and cease to exist? Do you get permanently get erased and your life has never happened ever? Or is it like a Pac-Man game and you go to the other end of the universe? It's just a weird topic to think about. So the answer to your question? I have no idea or preference. We are most likely never going to reach the end of the universe.

Have you viewed my other link of one of Dr. Kaku's lessons? If you watch his video's you'll start to get some understanding of it.
Also knowledge on physics, astrophysics, and astronomy helps.

Well you really have to open ur mind......the universe doent end, in fact as of right now scientists prediict that the universe as we know it is actually growing, imagine a shockwave you see on tv but in all directions, human really cant comprehend everything in fact there prob is a substance faster than light that we dont kno of, also there something we believe is called dark matter that basically is everywhere and is prob reason why galaxies stick together etcetc...basically some sientists believe that the universe will blow up and then deflate like a balloon.....my personal definitions of space is basically like a never ending field while the universe is like a house, scientist also believe there are several or millions of universes that i have no clue how to get to...through a black hole? anyway thats all i have to say
