lol, it does, I swear. :P
I can't get into messenger anymore. It just completely freezes my computer. I've uninstalled it, reinstalled it, reinstalled older versions, nothing works it's still not letting me in. I've done all these scanning things, seeing if I had something that was affecting it. Nothing.
So I'm stuck. Help?

Since I'm really not at your computer and I really can't tell what is going on, I reccomend going to something like integrity messenger. It hadles AIM, Yahoo, MSN and I think ICQ.

MSN hates a lot of people . . .
on that note, I'll need just a lil bit more information about the problem. (When did it stop working? what version did u last install before it stopped? what OS do u have? etc... Anything that u think would help us figure it out)

--It stopped working a couple days ago.
--I think it's 7.0, had it for a while before all this happened though.
--lol, I have an old computer..98.
Everything else on my computer seems to work fine, I just can't sign in with messenger. If I try, everything stops, mouse wont move, commands don't work. I was able to sign in once earlier today. I wasn't in maybe 20 seconds and then everything froze.

could it be a firewall that u have installed? if the services dont run for a certain firewall or network sharing application, then the computer will keep trying to call from the service, but it would get anything from it, thus freezing it.
so were there any changes to ur network, or did u install anything within the last couple days, did someone get on ur computer and change any of the services configurations?

It works now! :D
Getting rid of a firewall would make it all crazy like that?
Edit...Nevermind. It froze again.

well, its more likely to happen if u got a firewall rather than getting rid of one.
.... still need some more info - is it a beta version, do u have a firewall, did something change, did u install something??? there has to be something that messed up the connection enough for msn not to be able to connect. All I have now is a picture of a working computer that should run everything just fine.

I had Sygate (I think) firewall, but I got rid of it to try Mcafee's firewall, it was a thirty day trial type of thing, anyways the day after it said that it expired, so I deleted it, and accidently deleted Mcafee's VirusScan that I've had forever, and then reinstalled Sygate.
Umm..:?

I got messenger to work..
But, I have another question. What is a DLL?
"A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run."
Kiros
July 6th, 2005, 07:40 PM
a DLL is a dynamic link library. and that is... a library.
the libraries have *.dll extensions and must have an executable file call them. this means that DLLs cannot run by themselves. so when an executable file calls upon a DLL its similar to a set of instructions and 'profiles' (if u will) that will make the executable function in a proper way. VBscript usually doesnt need DLL files, while C++ and base Windows scripts usually do.

Arrgh, it's doing it again, has for the last few days.
did u install something???
Umm, heh, I was messing with these two cameras, trying to install one, but forgetting that the other was still installed. So, I unistalled the old one, reinstalled a new one, it didn't work, so I uninstalled the non-working one and reistalled the old one. And umm, now MSN doesn't work. I don't see why that would mess with the connection and stuff.
Um, how do I fix it?

hey if you read all of Kiros's thingies its like a computer class Lol. Anyways, MSN sucks. It kicks me off all the time
Kiros
August 3rd, 2005, 06:29 PM
thats because its connecting u using https:// protocol and that will infact kick u a lot. the security update to the .NET framework should fix most of it - except for when it needs to 'relogin' the secure connection.

And how do I do that?
Sorry, I'm kinda clueless.

go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and then go to Custom. If u have to download something before u get to the [Express] and [Custom] buttons, then do so. After it downloads and installs everything that it wants to (restart if needed), go back to the website and go to Custom (unless something more is needed) and download anything and everything there.
Microsoft has added in the Genuine Validation Check for Windows, so if u don't pass the validation, tell me and I'll give ya a fix for it.
Heather, if ya need assistance, please PM me and I'll help ya out through remote assistance.

Okay, I did that. The only thing that I didn't download was outlook, a Eruo conversion tool, and menus in a bunch of different languages. So I restarted a few times, until there wasn't anything left, and tried MSN again. It was freezing up, so I just left it like that and when I came back there was a "connection error" pop-up message.
"We were unable to sign you in to MSN Messenger, possibly because of a problem with the service or with your Internet connection. Please make sure that you are connected to the Internet."
It's done that a few times now.

I downloaded that MSN Plus. Let me say that I've never had that much spyware on this computer before. First spyware attack I've had in over a year.

ok, it really looks like a firewall problem (or a service/startup problem)
first check to make sure that you don't have any firewalls up. then go to start >> run >> and type in: services.msc ---Then scroll down and make sure that *Background Intellig..., DCOM Server Proce..., Event Log, Fast User Switching..., Network Connections, Terminal Services, and WebClient* are all started. After that, you will need to disable the window's firewall from blocking messenger. go to start >> control panel >> network and internet connections >> windows firewall. Now, for right now, you want to set it to Off - to test if it will allow messenger to connect. If it works, then you need to add messenger to the exceptions list. (in the 'general' tab in windows firewall options, set the firewall to on, and make sure the box below it is unchecked, then go into the 'exceptions' tab and click the 'add program...' button - then select the program from the list. hit OK, and then hit OK again.)
Now, if this still doesn't make it work, then ask your parents, your friends, and your siblings if they installed a firewall of any kind. If so plz tell me.
Heather, please PM me if ya have any more complications. I hate when I miss a post :P (plus, I can probably be more helpful through PM :P)
Thx
