So many people always worry about if their bodies are healthy, especially when people are extremely skinny and they eat so much, yet they never gain any weight. There are three types of body type: Ectomorph, Mesomorph, and Endomorph.

Ectomorph-An ectomorph is a typical skinny guy. Ecto’s have a light build with small joints and lean muscle. Usually ectomorph’s have long thin limbs with stringy muscles. Shoulders tend to be thin with little width.
Traits of Ectomorph-Small “delicate” frame and bone structure
Classic “hardgainer”
Flat chest
Small shoulders
Thin
Lean muscle mass
Finds it hard to gain weight
Fast metabolism
Ectomorphs find it very hard to gain weight. They have a fast metabolism which burns up calories very quickly. Ecto’s need a huge amount of calories in order to gain weight. Workouts should be short and intense focusing on big muscle groups. Supplements are definitely recommended. Ectomorphs should eat before bed to prevent muscle catabolism during the night. Generally, ectomorphs can lose fat very easily which makes cutting back to lean muscle easier for them.

Mesomorph-A mesomorph has a large bone structure, large muscles and a naturally athletic physique. Mesomorphs are the best body type for bodybuilding. They find it quite easy to gain and lose weight. They are naturally strong which is the perfect platform for building muscle.
Traits for Mesomorph-Athletic
Hard body with well defined muscles
Rectangular shaped body
Strong
Gains muscle easily
Gains fat more easily than ectomorphs
The mesomorph body type responds the best to weight training. Gains are usually seen very quickly, especially for beginners. The downside to mesomorphs is they gain fat more easily than ectomorphs. This means they must watch their calorie intake. Usually a combination of weight training and cardio works best for mesomorphs.

Endomorph-The endomorph body type is solid and generally soft. Endomorphs gain fat very easily. Endo’s are usually of a shorter build with thick arms and legs. Muscles are strong, especially the upper legs. Endomorphs find they are naturally strong in leg exercises like the squat.
Traits of Endomorph-Soft and round body
Gains muscle and fat very easily
Is generally short and “stocky”
Round physique
Finds it hard to lose fat
Slow metabolism
When it comes to training endomorphs find it very easy to gain weight. Unfortunately, a large portion of this weight is fat not muscle. To keep fat gain to a minimum, endomorphs must always train cardio as well as weights. Usually supplements may not be needed as long as the person has a high protein intake in their diet.

I really do hope you guys find this extremely useful! If you want more info, go to the website here where I got the info I gave you guys! http://www.muscleandstrength.com/articles/body-types-ectomorph-mesomorph-endomorph.html

Thanks for posting, body types are often used as an excuse as to why people don't get fit and build muscle so I hate people that go around complaining about there type. It is worth knowing though so good thing you posted.

I think I'm a Mesomorph, but the thing is, I also have a lot of fat on my stomach and glutes? I have always been stronger than most in my family, but I'm also pretty big, big shoulders, tall 6'2", and now I weigh 300 lbs. Idk if it is muscle or fat. SO idk if that counts me as a Endomorph or not...I think I might be a endomorph now that I think about it. I have been steadily gaining around 20 lbs each year, and this year I'm goign to try to do something about it...

Your body type does not cause that, that only has to do with having a high metabolism which comes from Genetics and is normally something a lot of teens have.

I see myself as a mesomorph but I disagree with rectangular body shape, I'm a 28 inch waist and a 45 inch chest so I have the typical v shape all my friends laugh and say I look like an upside down triangle when I wear a tight t shirt, I have trained really hard to get my size and physique so I could be an ectomorph. I don't see body type as an excuse for how people look, train hard and eat right and anything is possible!

Half true. Your body type is not a completely limiting factor but you simply will not get some aspects of your muscle definition if you are a certain body type. For example, some body types will almost never be able to get six pack abs without steroids. So body type is somewhat a limit.

You have strange friends

Nah but I have a very small waist and reasonably broad chest / shoulders by comparison. Not triangular (giggle) but not rectangle for sure. I am the nearer to the ecto version, I asked my swim coach this morning. But what I have for shoulders / pecs is from hard work from swimming. He says I'll prob keep my shape all my life, so I guess I'm doomed to look how I did at 14 forever  Nah its cool. I guess I never expected to be huge.

Thanks :) It ok i'm happy with how i look , I dont particularly want to be stacked with muscle anway, just have good definition. I suppose I was tired from training and lack of sleep and a bit sensitive over it earlier.

Haha ya no problem :). And ya it's all personal preference but if you do want to get big do not think it is somehow not possible because your swim coach said so lol.

I know! I suppose your all kinda right about it being somewhat limiting I just don't like giving people excuses haha, train hard and eat right and you can achieve nearly anything you want with your body. Obviously those who want to take it to the next level and go pro or at least a high level will need to take steroids I'm probably one of the few that isn't totally against steroids in cases like that.

I'm a mesomorph but maybe a little bit endo because I have quite a bit of stomach fat, not the best core strength, and strong legs.

You are not a mesomorph that weight is pure endomorph. Without being on steroids no person is going to easily attain a 300 lb weight from muscle, so sorry but that is a lot of fat.

ecto-mesomorph

since starting working out and doing athletics I have started getting a more mesomorph form, but I'm still pretty skinny and tall (as in lanky) in a way. I also can't gain weight, and I eat as much as I can. I have a fast metabolism.

My suggestion for those having probs gaining muscle/weight try a 3 day a week whole body routine and do what has been called The Breathing Squats Routine, The 20 rep squat routine, and the Milk and Squats routine.

You can google those 3 and you'll find routines and info on it!
Just remember you ahve to follow the instructions that will come with the routine and workout HARD 3 days a week.
