yeah, it's actually pretty easy. The key is to be a good bullshitter. Cuz half the stuff they ask really makes no sense. If it makes no sense to you, it'll make no sense to them. The less you know going in, the better off you are. (This doesn't work if you go to states or nationals) Don't ever think up a speech or memorize a speech. Think up the three ideas, the first sentence, and a dramatic conclusion. If you run out of stuff to say, make a dramatic pause. And act like everything coming out of your mouth is the most exciting thing in the world even though no one gives two shits about if Putin wants to make a eurasian union. I actually pick this because it was the least work involved.
But yeah, i could never do poetry...I'd stutter on the rhymes and probably forget everything and start making up lines.

what you said was very interesting i agree with you entirely on the dramatic pause thing i do that so many times and it usually works out for the better! i never quite made it to states last year i did make it to the state qualifiers for nationals but unfortuantely one performer i didnt quite do as well as i would have wanted to :P (better luck this year i guess). the thing with prose is you have to move and make up hand motions while holding a black book when your piece is pretty much memorized. i did do dramatic for a while but im sure if youve seen dramatic before you know how dark and depressing it can be haha.

I made it to states but not nationals. states asked weird-ass questions. like i got some question about indian socialists and i was like... "dafuq???" And there was a question on music of today and i mentioned hip hop and i guess hip hop does not settle well with middle aged ladies.
Oh, I know what you're talking about. You call it prose, we call it O.I (Oral interpretation) And yeah, drama is very depressing, everyone talks about either rape or suicide. I had this friend who had a piece and it started with "once upon a time" and i got shivers hearing it.
I love watching duo though. The one with two people and they're not allowed to touch each other or look at each other but they still need to be in sync. I always thought that was really cool.

i hate those judges who simply cut you down because of stupid things like mentioning hip hop. and yeah ive seen extempt judges ask questions that can pretty much make no sense whatsoever :P i did a politically correct version of little red riding hood last year and needless to say there were a few judges who would end up offended since it kind of made fun of liberals and our politically correct society :P. its also called O.I but they both mean the same thing :). i once watched a dramatic performance where the girl was getting ready to stab her husband and she actually foamed at the mouth! it was very scary LOL. i love duo interp as well but i could never find a partner. have you ever done other categories before?
