On user's profiles if they have specified an account of email/Skype etc., then you may intact them that way. You're not supposed to ask for it on the forums.

No, you cannot. You can check the "contact" profile of someones page and then add them from that but you cannot ask via visitor message or PM for contact information.

No, you wouldn't have been banned, just warned. If you've been warned about contact information in the past, you would have been official warned. Beyond official warning is infractions, which get you frozen or banned. You have to be pretty bad to be banned, don't worry. It's always good to ask about something if you're not sure though. :)

My advice, be careful in who you give your IM info. Not everyone is on here for the right intentions.

This, and, it's only restricted when it becomes a problem. For example, a PM with "hey can I have your im to trade pics" is not allowed, but something like "hey do you want to chat, can I have your im info?" is. Of course, previous history is a big deciding factor as well.

I am confused now, I was told to remove from my signature my request for people to ask me for my contact details, and was threated with infractions if I didnt, yet I am still seeing lots of people with MSN/Skype.Tumblr addys, so is it allowed or not allowed?
