I feel reallllly weird about posting this but i have to know if anyone else feels the same. And sorry if this is in the wrong place but i assume its a debatable topic..

If prostitution is illegal because its sex for money then wouldnt pornograpghy be considered the same thing? People have sex and they get paid for it, correct? So then why isnt producing pornography illegal?

Ps. Sorry if this doesnt make much sense its super late but i cant sleep.

Because one is more socially acceptable than the other.

Maybe because it's a two sided business. While in prostitution only one of the partners work and has no pleasure doing it, in pornography both (or more) work and hence it is more socially acceptable because there is no feelings involved.
Just my idea, the real thing may be different though.

well porn is like a movie. It's kind of an act. Prostitution is legit. In porn, people don't get killed. Prostitutes disappear all the time.

At first glance you don't know if that prostitute on the corner is a victim of human trafficking, forced to do it, underage, or spreading diseases.
If prostitution were legal it'd probably be hard to check that each prostitute is certified and clean, not stolen from her home, and not doing this against her will. It would most likely deplete some other work force areas too. Why go to school to become a doctor when you can get rich having sex?

I think pornography uses that "artist expression" line too. There's more individual freedom in the porn industry and not just anyone can be a pornstar. I'm not sure but I don't think hum-drum plain girls and guys get too far unless there's a large audience that enjoys them. Not that porn's any much safer from what I said about prostitution, it's probably easier to keep everyone involved relatively safe.

There's countries that have prostitution legalized and under control. Guess what? They tax it as well.
Take Germany for example, they removed prostitution from the streets and limited it to brothels. Prostitutes need to be registered and have regulars check ups. The walking prostitutes are taken care of by authorities. Whatever you do, prostitution is a cancer so deep in our society that cannot be cured, you can control it however and even gain from it. Whether it'll be money or all the gain will be clearer streets without awful looking women walking around in short dresses, it's still a gain.
Before you bash me with feminism, moralism and whatnot, I'm gonna say that I support prostitution in no way, have barely any respect for people that get so low to pay to have sex and feel pity for women having to do it; but you need to understand that prostitution is the oldest job in the world, there's demand and there will be supply. As long as we don't evolve to the point of seeing sex as a mean of reproduction only, there's no cure to it.

I think more people get hurt by prostitution, there are times they don't want to do it and are forced by pimps or whatever. Plus it's kind of like human trafficking, and it's not all the safe either, prostitutes don't get tested often, and if they do, they do it on their own time and terms. I think porn stars have to go get tested and often.

I can undertsnad what you mean - but not all porn invloves sex.

The porn business is huge lots of money lots of contacts

I guess if any country was considering laws to ban it the media and lobbying forces would be out in force again awash with money. to use as a way of influencing any desicion.

One need only look at how the tobacco and cig companies lobbied tha bans on advertising to see how that works

Not in the states. 49 of our 50 states have made it illegal.
The only state that allows prostitution either Nevada or Arkansas, I forget which one, and that's only in licensed and registered brothels.

It's Nevada that allows prostitution but not all counties will allow it. Arkansas is way too conservative to allow prostitution.

I just wanted to point out that in Singapore it's the opposite. Prostitution is fine, but porn is not okay at all. Even soft porn.

I think the difference is that prostitution often is a result of human trafficking and tied in with drugs and pandering (pimping.) Pornography doesn't have these same affiliations.

Okay, this is going to sound heartless, but at the end of the day, the latter is mass market, the former is not. You can roll out movies by the dozen and make millions of copies, but three guys can't share an escort. At the end of the day, there's enough money and as a result high enough standards in the porn industry to keep it going with the government's blessings.

Pretty much this. Porn makes WAYYYYYY more money then prostitution.

I never really understood why prostitution was illegal anyway. Porn isn't prostitution because there's a camera involved. Prostitution isn't legal due to "moral and religious" reasons. It seems that money overrides both of these.

Yup thats aparently what it seems to be, all about the money and not the health and safety of these people.

Simply put: You can't get AIDS from porn.

Not technically true, there have been some cases where people get AIDS from not getting tested and not using condoms, which is horrible especially because its mostly the producer peoples fault not the peope doing the ..... job.. Hehe
