I have always wondered why there is a Chevy Silverado and a GMC Sierra. They are both made by General Motors so why two identical trucks? Is one version more luxurious, fast, or all around better?

I am looking to buy a 1998 Chevy or GMC truck.

Now I'm not a car/truck aficionado, but from what I know, GMC's are more luxurious when compared to is chevy sibling, i.e. Acadia-Traverse, Sierra-Silverado, Yukon-Tahoe, you get the idea..

The GMC models are supposedly "professional" vehicles. But functionally they are the same, it is only a brand. They are not more luxurious. My family has a Yukon XL but I've also been in a Suburban of the same year before and they are the same.

I like Chevrolet than GMC, because GMC is like a Watered down version of the Chevy models. What I mean by watered down, like the trimming on the GMC models are not as nice as the Chevy models. For example, a 99 Suburban or Silverado has the chrome trim in the front, as for the 99 Yukon or Sierra, it just has a painted front. It just seems to me that GMC models are more watered down when it comes to the exterior appearance.

The Yukon XL is probably the base trim, and the Suburban the highest trim(LTZ). Chevy is the base, and everything else in GM is more luxurious, with Cadillac being the most.

Well its kinda like ford it used to go Ford, Mercury, Lincoln, lincoln being their top of the line luxury , mercury being their middle shelf group but more reasonable and ford just being their mainstream vehicle.

Its like why they had the Crown Victoria and the Grand Marquis for ford and lincoln, its literally the same car, sometimes same features depending on what trim you get.

Yep pretty much. The Lincoln Town Car is the top of the line in the Panther platform. The Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis are the lower end of the line. I have a Crown Vic and love it!

What year is your's? I actually like the updated look on the TC in 2003. Better than 1998-02. I actually want to get an '06 and newer Vic soon. The rack in pinion steering starting in 2003 is so much nicer than the older years.

Mine is a 93 signature series, back when a lot of the features that were added on this car didn't come standard :P Though when this town car dies, I'll get a 95. Which is the next best year. I still like so much of how this older town car feels, parking is literally a bitch which is why I always want to park at an angle, and park far out in the parking lot. But if you wanna know more about my town car, let me know dude, I really enjoy talking about older lincolns and shit. I dont wanna hog up this dudes thread, because i can go on all day about it.
