I vote Honda. Reliability.

Reliable? Yes. Good? Yes. Great? No. Not even the NSX was a great.

As cliche as it is, you have to give Ferrari a place. The 250GTO, Daytona, F40 etc etc.

I think the user you quoted thought this thread is about who makes the best cars now.

For normal people, I'd say BMW...very nice car.
For luxury, I always thought the lotus cars were very pretty. Ferrari has a lot of flare but I heard the safety rating was way down there.

I'd honestly have to say Chevrolet. Not because I'm a huge Chevy fan, which I am, I drive a Ford.
They reason I'd say Chevy is because they're innovators and they have always made the most reliable American vehicles out there, Ford is close but not quite. Dodge? Pft!
They aren't the American automobile originators, Ford is. The model A and the Model T were two of the first big hits, Chevy didn't hit the nail on the head until about 15 years later in the 50's.
The Bel Air was a huge success, so was the Impala and the Malibu.
In '64 Ford revealed the Mustang and it took off!
Chevy had an answer to that...
...The Camaro!
A bigger body, sportier, bigger motor, louder, faster, more up to date, it had everything!
Chevy also released the Chevy II/Nova which was a compact and family friendly car but, it still had sporting good looks and speed.
There's the Chevelle SS with a 454, has Ford or Dodge ever released a car with a motor bigger than a 454? What's that? A 289? 302? 350? 355? 360? 400!?! Ha! Still ain't a 454!
Oh and did I mention that Chevy also makes a 602?

Lancia!!!!

Well thats what Top Gear said, and the Stratos and Delta Integrale were incredible.

Ford made some great cars. Obviously the Model-T was a great car, the GT40 (original) was fantastic, the Mustang was innovative and cool, the F150 is the bestselling truck ever, and the Focus has always been a fun hot hatch but calling that a great car is pushing it.

will i am i have to agree being a big top gear fan but most everyone doesn't understand you cant just say reliability for and that what makes a the car company cause look at Toyota they make shit but they are reliable. i think this is a good debate car fans can have only if they know about cars!

CourtingErmine

I'd have to go with American engineering because they are the car pioneers, sturdy, although not as reliable as let's say a Toyota, they always go out of their way to make cars look nice. I don't want to drive around a curvy car that curves in the wrong places, like curving down the trunk. I want to drive a nice V6 Chevy, Ford, or Dodge(only their SRT8 lineup). I know a lot about cars, and foreign cars seem to be more conservative, while the US cars seem to be more audacious and fierce. US based car companies are making HUGE comebacks. I'll be the first to admit, I don't like seeing foreign cars on the road(every 1 in 8 cars on the road are foreign) and racing(i.e. NASCAR).

Hyundai, because almost all of their cars are reliable, luxorious [however you spell that], gas-efficient, and easy on the eyes.
As for world known cars, I'd say Toyota, Chevorlet, and BMW

You're the first person ever to use Toyota and reliable in the same sentence without a not in between them.

Well, it's true. You can't deny that fact. They also have highest resale value. Don't know if that's because people don't like Toyota or people like Toyota a lot.

Lolwut? Each to their own I guess.
I'd say another would be Jaguar. XK120, E Type etc etc.

As i said in the post earlier. the Volvo 240 has to be one of the strongest cars ever built, if not thee. There engines are about as reliable as a wood burning stove

The most? as in quantitative? I would have to say Mercedes simply because they have the longest most storied history. It gives them a huge advantage but they had and have some amazing cars and trucks. I would never want to own one, but they would have my vote.

Yall need to give Dodge and Plymouth some rep here! Dodge it was were the first car to basically fully stock have a car do 200 MPH in 1970 I think. That was with a 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona... Who else can say that? ;) Oh and Hemi's... Big thing there, a 5.7L Hemi I think it was has more horsepower than a V10 Ford Engine and I dont know the liter size on it though. Seriously Plymouth 'Cudas in the 1970s were the most dangerous thing on the roads! Fast, light and cranking out close to 500 HP! Today Hemis still reign!

I would have to give it to ford they have always built cars that have stood the test of time, held their own in all types of racing, and have created a car for every purpose. Not to mension the best car drivers have picked them though out the years (Shelby, McQueen, and Roush).

hang on yous are going for company's that have made a few good cars but have messed up allot on the way.
Out of them all i think ford offer cars for the people. you can buy a 1 litre fiesta or a v8 super car and lots of in-between to suite most peoples needs.

but i feel if you could point at a car company and say what cars have they made that i wouldn't want and i think because of this the old and real lancia wins by far. there desirable there made with passion and most importantly they have soul which is what all car enthusiasts want. thats why people are in love with cars

In terms of racing heritage, and constant production of quality performance cars, you don't get better than Enzo Ferrari's company. Talking about speed, and mechanical marvels, Bugatti is king in that department, the Type 57 a pre-1940 car that could break 100 MPH? That's impressive.

I personally think Mercedes Benz. I support American business but if they cant make a car that is as appealing or presigious as a Benz, then they shouldnt be bought from. But I do support Am. business so I would also choose Cadillac, my neighbor just bought a nice red SRX it looks like a true american car should look like, chrome rims, tinted windows, crome trim, sexy curves, and beautiful paint. I was downtown and saw a blacked out SRX with chrome accent, it seriously looked even better than a Camaro! From what an SRX looked like when they first came out to now, you cant tell me that Cadillacs havent improved!

Of the imported cars, Mercedes is one of the best, if not , the best. Before BMW or Lexus came out with all these safety features, I can guarantee you that M-B had them first! Even since the 1900's Mercedes Benz had made beautiful cars. By the way, Karl Benz made the first gasoline powered car, prooving Mercedes Benz as the leader in auto manufacturing. I love every model, well except the C-class hatchback eek. But am in love with a S65 amg.

Speaking about safety, if you think Toyotas are safe. Then how can you explain the "floor mats popping up and getting caught in the gas pedal"?
A car isnt safe if it suddenly accelarates and can potentially kill the passengers without the driver being at fault. And this goes for its "high end" copy cat, Lexus !
