When I charged my iPad last night, it was perfectly fine. When I went to go charge it a few hours later, it told me that it wasn't charging to the certain device. I turned off my iPad, plugged the charger back in, and turned it back on. I thought it was fixed because in the corner there was a little charging sign, but instead of gaining battery, I ended up losing battery. So then I pulled it out, then tried it again. But it told me that it wasn't charging. I plugged my iPhone into the charger, and it seems to work perfectly fine. I'm really desperate, and I don't want to tell my parents because I'd get in soooooo much trouble. Please, can somebody tell me what's going on?!?!

How long have you had the iPad for? The rechargeable battery wears out over time and it's not your fault. If it's been over a year and you didn't purchase the extended AppleCare plan it'll cost $99 to replace the battery.

Let the battery run out and try charging it again.

uh oh, how weird! Idk if you managed to fix the problem yet, but if you haven't you should listen to what the other posters said. If you've had it for a long time, then the battery might just be at the end of its life and you'll have to replace it. If not, then let the battery die and try recharging it.

Also, if it turns out the thing is just busted and you haven't had it that long, a warranty will probably cover it and you can just get a new one.

Yeah, this happened when my iPod touch 2G battery died. Most likely, the battery has reached the end of it's usable life. Try contacting apple and get a quote for how much it could cost.

It happens sometimes. Just wait until the battery is dead.

One more thing, try a different outlet or another charger. Apple devices are finicky. Even if the charger will charge your iPhone, there could be subtle voltage differences keeping the iPad from charging. I have a charger with two USB ports to charge my phone and iPod at the same time. However, I have to plug my iPod in first and then my phone. If I plug my phone in first and then my iPod, my iPod won't charge.

1. Try charging it with the charger it came with and wait about 15 min before checking for the icon.

2. If that doesn't work, take it to an Apple store and have them try it on their charger. It could be that your charger is goofed up even though it charges your phone.

Unless you dropped it or something, it isn't your fault. I have an Ipad2 that's about 6 months old and it gets used a lot by me and my fam and friends. During the summer, it easily got used 10 hours a day.

At the beginning over every month I drain it completely and then charge it completely. Read to do that in the help section of the device. My batter life is still around 10 hours.

Thank you everybody for your help. My iPad eventually died, but I tried just charging it even after it was dead and it came back to life. I think I probably did something to it to cause it to malfunction, because now if I let it get down to 10% and try charging it , it tells me it's not charging.
