I understand why you guys have sticky threads for certain really popular topics in the forums, but I think sometimes that has the effect of just killing discussion in some places. Like I was just in the TV/cinema forum, replying to "What's your favorite current TV show" and it was locked. I saw the sticky thread and went to post my reply there, but it's seriously soooo long it's ridiculous. I just think that kind of kills discussion in the TV/cinema forum, because it's hard to keep discussions current and alive when you have such a huge stick.

So my suggestion is maybe you guys could either get rid of some of the stickies, or maybe leave them there but just not lock threads that seem like they should be in the sticky? I just think that it would keep the forum topics fresher and encourage more posting.

I don't really understand what you mean by "killing discussion." The stickies are there to reduce the amount of unneeded threads in the forums. While this may not work all that well, it's a lot less confusing than having several repeated threads over and over again. A sticky also is easier to access than searching for a thread that may not be on the first page. And you can click on the button that looks like this: http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/images/styles/fblue/buttons/lastpost.gif to go to the very last post so you don't have to scroll through a bunch of the old posts to see the new ones.

Stickies are there to minimize the amount of threads in a certain sub-forum. People will read the most recent pages of posts normally, so don't fear the mass amounts of posts in them already.

If they're worth using, they're worth overusing.
