View Full Version : Images of killing myself?

This may be weird, but ever since I was about 10 I have had vivid images of killing myself in every way imaginable. If I see something new I will imagine a way of killing myself with it, I once saw a big glass window and just imagine punching through it and shredding my arm as I ripped it out etc, etc... until in every image I die. I think this started with my depressing and self-harm, but I don't feel suicidal or any more. It's not really concerning me at all because it's so regular I've gotten used to it, but I'm wondering if this is normal for people with depression? I feel really weird in the head when I image this stuff because I actually enjoy it.

Yes, I get those images too. They give you a weird kind of satisfaction, don't they?

Yeah they really do. I guess it's like imagining killing someone else, but instead of pleasure from getting a bad person out of your life it's relief from your problems, but in an imaginary form.

I'm no expert, but since I have felt depressed many times in life, and think of theoretical ways in which I could kill myself with the least pain, etc.
So your feelings of finding methods to kill your self through new experiences is kind of similar to what I've felt, so yes..I do believe it is in some way linked to depression.

Yeah I know what you mean. When I see tall buildings and imagine myself jumping. Its the same way when I see a gun or a knife. I'm not really depressed too much anymore, but it still happens just as often.

Sometimes this happens to me too. Its not really satisfying or anything, but its just something that crosses my mind from time to time. As long as you're not planning on carrying out these scenarios, I'd say perhaps its just sort of an unpleasant echo that depression, especially severe depression, can leave, if that makes sense at all.
