Has anyone else noticed that in today's school that people seem to follow what the more popular people do? I know for a fact this happens in my school. Im going to have too 99% of school follows the popular kids. I know of a few like me that dont follow anyone in school. But has anyone else noticed this?

sure it happens but then I guess its a copy culture and if you dont fit or just have your own way then you stand out.

Yep. I've even had one of those are 'you kidding me' moments. I adore sweater dresses, they're mainly all I wear in the colder seasons. Now I'm not the first girl to wear them and don't claim them, but I was one of the few girls that actively looked for them and wore them for so many years, but I'm a nobody. The second one or two of the popular girls put on a sweater dress, boom. Instant trend. Everyone and their goldfish had them on. I went from being that 'chick in the sweater dress' to the 'hey where'd you get your's?' 'uh I got it 4 years ago'. Of course the trend died but it was sort of scary to see that insanity sweep through the school.

I don't actually think I've actually been in a trend at my school or started one nor do i care very much.

As somebody that doesn't follow trends I find people that blindly follow everything a popular one says very funny. Just look at the groupies when you go out: t shirt with some random design or meme face and checkered shorts, girls have those one piece dresses that all look the same as well. I have a girl friend that makes her own dresses in a nu hippie fashion and is usually seen as a weird girl...
Same thing applies to music... I feel like there's only Pitbull on the radio. And yes, Gotye -.-''

Music i definitely dont fit in with the music in my school. People in my school call music that's 5 months old old. I listen to music from the 60s and 70s 80s and 90s. and 5 months is old. wow

Yes, the phenonomon most clear with this most recently is Blackberry's.
You were nothing if you didn't have one unless you had one (or a decent smart phone at least) and now people realise they break too easily (I look after my phone) androids are taking over... While I see the advantages of having an android phone for example, I didn't get it because they were popular at school, I got it because I needed a phone and it looked good when I googled it :D
I am pretty sure out of my tiny 600 pupil school I am the only person with a Samsung Galaxy W
I am though however a statistical anomoly anyway :P
Sorry if this babble seems irrelevant but mobile phones are a possibility in trends.
IMO
I really don't follow the crowds, any brands I have is because I like the product.

Yeah, sure. Everyone wants what the popular/well liked people have and to be honest, who can blame them. If they've made a connection between popularity and (for example) how you dress then most people are going to dress a certain way, like everyone else.
In my year at school we've had quite a few 'breakouts' of trends between the girls in the past few years. These have included: Smoking, comb overs (hair), the spike things that make holes in your ear lobe (earing), dying your hair, being a lesbian (yes, in year 9 nearly every popular girl in my year converted to becoming gay... wtf?) and tight school trousers. If people could think for themselves for once things would be a lot more exciting and there would be less measuring yourself against other people.
I can safely say that I'm not one of those sheep. I dress my own way, make my own mind up and don't act a certain way to please the most popular and I'm fine with it. People have the choice to choose how they want to be viewed as, so I guess it's up to them really. If they want to be forgotten in a crowd of look-alike bimbos then that's up to them.

I don't limit myself when it comes to music, I listen to everything that sounds nicely and goes with the mood I'm in. I can go from Iron Maiden to Pet shop boys and end up in Lady Gaga. In my opinion, saying you only like oldies (which btw rock) is the same as saying you only like new stuff. There's new stuff that sounds good too, even Pitbull sounds good, but it's not like ONLY Pitbull sounds good.

Everyone at my school listens and wears the same stuff. Dubstep -.- and the very expensive clothing(abercombie, aeropostal) not really sure why that is though when you can go to Wal-mart and pick out a shirt that looks exactly the same for a fraction of the price. Another thing in the school is tumblr. 1 person got it and now everyone has it. Now everyone knows a lot of memes and stuff so me and my "nerd friends" can't make inside jokes with them...
IMO, I prefer my own style. Khakis with a black shirt and shoes, I dont ike having many people around me. I try to stay away from the crowds...

Trends sicken me. The fact that these people are so un-original and sheep-like that they have to look at others to choose what they wear, what they listen to or what they watch on T.V. The funny part is all these self-branded "Hipsters" are all about originality and yet they don't realise they're a trend and a social-cliche.

Fucking conformists.
I try to be as individual as possible with the school uniform, so I wear everything in the weirdest way. I really don't like copying and conforming to anything.

It's human nature to want to fit in, and what easier way to fit in than to do what the popular people do. Or you could be an individual and risk not fitting in.

I do love the anti-trend groups though that pop up. They shout 'down with conformity' but end up conforming to their own little group. Because it's cool to be that rebel. I personally do what I want, if it happens to be trending right now that's nice, I'd still do it even if it wasn't. Trends seems to be repeating in my area too. Anyone else have a re-emergence of those, horrendous, neon checkered skinny jeans? I also feel original people lose their originality when someone decides to become their clone and create followers.

Yep. Peer pressure. Its a bitch. But for most people, being cool or popular is a way to avoid being picked on. In my personal opinion.

It's always like that. The ones that bother me are the people who say that they are "original" or "individualistic".. Yeah, you are an individual, just like everyone else.
